Marshall Boya Announces the Color of 2027: Lean Balance
AkzoNobel, the parent company of Marshall Boya, has announced the color of 2027 as “Lean Balance.” Consisting of a soft, silvery and tranquil shade of green, the color focuses on the need for simplicity amid the intensity of daily life and the bombardment of information. Aiming to create a peaceful atmosphere in living spaces, Lean Balance also inspires color applications in the fields of architecture and industrial design.

Determined as part of the ColourFutures color trend research conducted by the AkzoNobel Global Aesthetic Center for nearly 30 years, Lean Balance was shaped in line with changing societal trends and consumer expectations. Bringing together international architects, designers, journalists and trend analysts, the research determines each year's standout color by evaluating the relationship between color preferences and societal changes.

Color stories that simplify life
The color of 2027, Lean Balance, responds to the desire to ease the mental burden created by the pace of daily life and the intense flow of information. Standing out with its calm and natural character, the color aims to create a simpler, more airy and peaceful atmosphere in living spaces.

Lean Balance sits at the center of three different color stories named Glow, Freshness and Enthusiasm. These palettes offer alternatives for different living spaces and design preferences.

The Glow palette highlights earth tones to create a warm atmosphere in spaces such as living rooms and kitchens. The Freshness palette combines light colors with dark nuances to offer a calming and purifying look. The Enthusiasm palette, on the other hand, brings movement to living spaces with inspiring, energetic and positive tones.

A color approach extending to architectural and industrial designs
In addition to decorative applications in interior spaces, Lean Balance is also used in solutions for architectural and industrial designs. AkzoNobel carries color trends to various sectors by developing color, texture and special effect options suited to different markets and application areas.

In addition to decorative paints, special color palettes are also offered for areas such as aviation, automotive, consumer electronics, metal furniture, lighting, cabinet manufacturing, flooring and building products.

Regarded as one of the reflections of interest in natural materials on contemporary architecture, Lean Balance also finds its counterpart in AkzoNobel's Interpon-branded powder coating solutions. Offered within the super durable powder coating series, nine complementary cream, gray and blue tones were designed to harmonize with materials such as aluminum, steel, wood, stone and concrete. The color palette can be used not only on facades but also in window and door systems and metal furniture.

AkzoNobel's marine and yacht coatings business unit also shared a study on the appearance of the Lean Balance tone on marine vessels. The company's Awlgrip brand continues its activities in this field with paint and coating solutions for the marine sector.

“We based our approach on creating airy spaces for a calmer life”
Heleen van Gent, Creative Director at the AkzoNobel Global Aesthetic Center, stated that people's need for calmer living spaces was influential in determining the color of 2027.

Van Gent used the following statements in her assessment:

“Today, many people feel a great weight on them due to global developments and information overload. When selecting the color of 2027, we based our approach on creating more airy spaces for a calmer life. We chose Lean Balance as the mood of 2027 with the goal of offering a peaceful environment where they can shed this weight.”

Daniel Geiger Campos, AkzoNobel's Global Director of Decorative Paints and Executive Committee Member, drew attention to the importance of shaping color trends in line with the needs of different markets and sectors.

Campos said, “As global color experts, we work with visionary names from all over the world every year to ensure that our comprehensive research perfectly aligns with evolving trends. By focusing on the changing needs of different audiences and sectors, we offer market-specific solutions to our customers and designers, helping them capture the spirit of the times.”

Jorrit van Rijn, AkzoNobel's Global Marketing Director for Powder Coatings, stated that Lean Balance offers a long-term color approach in architectural designs and said the following:

“When architects determine a color, they are actually defining the character of a building that will last for decades. Lean Balance offers a color direction that is modern for today and timeless for years to come. The proven durability, color retention performance and sustainability qualities of all our products provide full confidence that designers' original ideas will be preserved for decades.”

Marshall Boya: Simplicity and naturalness stand out in living spaces
Marshall Boya General Manager Özgür Orçunus stated that consumers are gravitating towards simpler, more natural and relaxing atmospheres in their living spaces. Orçunus expressed that Lean Balance offers a color approach that brings the tranquility of nature into interior spaces.

Orçunus said, “We are all looking for more simplicity, naturalness and comfort in our living spaces. Faced with the pace and stress of daily life, we are redefining our homes, in particular, as a point of 'refreshment and simplification.' Lean Balance, the color of 2027, brings the healing power of nature into interior spaces while leading the formation of a calm, energizing and intimate atmosphere in living spaces.”
