OCSiAl to Build World's Largest Graphene Nanotube Production Facility

The opening of OCSiAl's new production hub will strengthen Europe's role in the global advanced materials value chain.

Opening of OCSiAl's new production hub will strengthen Europe's role in the global advanced materials value chain.

OCSiAl, a Luxembourg-based technology company and one of the world's leading firms in graphene nanotube technologies, announced that it has signed a land lease agreement to begin developing its flagship production hub in Differdange, Luxembourg, which will be the world's largest graphene nanotube manufacturing facility.

This official announcement came as a result of years of joint work between the company and the Luxembourg Government. During this period, an investment round was completed from a Luxembourg-based investor "club," and a long-term land lease agreement was signed with the Luxembourg State for a 3.63-hectare area in Differdange.

Luxembourg Minister of Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism Lex Delles stated, "This production hub to be opened in Differdange perfectly reflects our objective of positioning Luxembourg as one of the key players in industrial innovation in Europe. This major investment in graphene nanotubes demonstrates the confidence of investors in our ecosystem and reveals the potential of our industrial zones to host high-tech manufacturing projects. We are proud to support OCSiAl in this strategic step; it will contribute to the creation of qualified jobs, to Luxembourg's reputation in the deep-tech field, and to a more sustainable and competitive industry."

Finance Minister Gilles Roth added, "OCSiAl's investment highlights Luxembourg's role as a long-term platform for innovation and smart industry development. This project demonstrates the value of combining private sector vision with public infrastructure support."

Founded in Luxembourg in 2010, OCSiAl has become the world's largest producer of graphene nanotubes, a next-generation advanced material that enhances the performance of numerous products used in daily life. Currently produced only in Serbia, OCSiAl nanotubes—with production capacity quadrupled in that country—are used in more than 10 percent of smartphones sold today and in over one million electric vehicles globally.

OCSiAl Board Member Alain Kinsch stated, "Graphene nanotubes can improve more than half of the materials we use in daily life, from safer batteries to longer-lasting tires and ultra-lightweight protective equipment. We thank the Luxembourg Government for making this project possible through the land lease agreement and for creating an environment where innovation and industrial vision can flourish."

OCSiAl Board Member Norbert Becker commented, "This is a pivotal step for OCSiAl and Differdange. This project brings together visionary science, strong local roots, and long-term investment in workforce and knowledge."

The planned USD 300 million investment and facility, targeting the creation of over 300 new jobs, will be phased into operation between 2028 and 2030, strengthening Europe's role in the global advanced materials value chain while serving as a development hub for a new generation of engineers and scientists.
