KAÇUV to Raise Awareness on 15 February

In Turkey, 3,500 children per year, or 1 child every 3 hours, are diagnosed with cancer. This figure reaches 5,000 when including relapses.

The Foundation for Hope for Children with Cancer (KAÇUV), on the occasion of 15 February Childhood Cancer Day, is illuminating Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge in yellow to raise awareness about childhood cancer and draw attention to the importance of early diagnosis. Both bridges will be illuminated in yellow on 15 February and will remain lit this way for 1 week. Additionally, information will be displayed on LED screens in 17 shopping centers to highlight 15 February Childhood Cancer Day. KAÇUV Board Chairman Prof. Dr. İnci Yıldız, noting that the number of cancer cases in children under three years of age increases every year, says that access to treatment is equally important as early diagnosis in childhood cancers. Prof. Dr. Yıldız states: "Today we are no longer as fearful of childhood leukemia as we once were. Over the past 30 years, while 20 percent of cases recovered, today more than 80 percent recover. Childhood cancers differ from adult cancers in terms of types, diagnostic methods and symptoms. Since there are no established screening tests as in adults, it is of great importance that parents be aware of findings and symptoms in order to achieve early diagnosis.
