They Generate 180,000 Kilowatts of Electricity with Solar Energy Panels

Arsuz Municipality in Hatay produces approximately 180,000 kilowatts of electricity monthly with its solar energy panels. Arsuz Municipality installed solar energy panels on the roofs of neighborhood markets measuring 2,521 square meters in Karaağaç Quarter and 1,792 square meters in Çetillik Quarter to meet its electricity needs. The municipality, which has been generating an average of 500 kilowatts of electricity per hour from panels installed approximately 7 months ago, now covers its monthly electricity bill of around TRY 20,000. Arsuz Mayor Asaf Güven stated that the district stands out not only for its agricultural production but also for tourism. Güven said they are working to benefit from every aspect of the district in the best and cleanest way without affecting agriculture and tourism, and noted that they have carried out work in areas outside productive land. As Güven mentioned that they installed solar energy panels on the roofs of two neighborhood markets in the district, he made the following statement on the matter: "We wanted to take advantage of Arsuz's abundant sunshine. To both protect the environment and pass on to future generations a greener, healthier Arsuz with nature preserved, we created such a solar energy system project. We went through a very unfortunate period. It actually became operational before the earthquake. Our system has been generating energy for approximately 7 months. We sell this to the electricity company and in return we have reduced our electricity energy bill to almost zero."   Source
