Perstorp sets science-based emission reduction targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement

With a passion for being a leader in sustainable solutions in priority markets, Perstorp Group has already committed to becoming Finite Material Neutral. Now, the global chemicals company has announced its commitment to emission reduction targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and the Science Based Targets initiative. Targets will be set for both direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3 according to the GHG protocol) and will be calculated taking into account anticipated future expansion and considered growth. The aim is to submit science-based targets in 2021.   Anna Berggren, Vice President Sustainability at Perstorp Group, states: "One challenge for direct greenhouse gas emissions is to significantly reduce emissions from our production facilities while growing our production. To reduce our indirect emissions, we must accelerate the transition from fossil raw materials to more sustainable, lower carbon footprint alternatives and grow our Environmentally Friendly product portfolio. We are already committed to a sustainable transformation and working with the Science Based Targets initiative will enable us to be transparent in the process and ensure that our low-carbon transformation is aligned with climate science."   [caption id="attachment_124685" align="aligncenter"] (Photo: Perstorp)[/caption]   Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly defined pathway for future growth by specifying how much and how quickly they need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Science Based Targets initiative advocates setting science-based targets as a powerful way to enhance companies' competitive advantage in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
