Perstorp announces production capacity increase for 2-Ethylhexanoic Acid (2-EHA)

Perstorp will substantially increase its 2-ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) production capacity from 2022 onwards to meet growing market demand. The investment and expansion will take place within Perstorp's existing production facilities, with implementation already underway.

2-EHA is one of the flagship products of Perstorp Group, which holds the world's largest 2-EHA production capacity. A colorless liquid with a carboxylic group based on a C8 carbon chain, 2-EHA is widely used in esters for PVB film plasticizers and synthetic lubricants. It is also used in the production of metal soaps for paint dryers, automotive coolants and PVC stabilizers. Other applications include wood preservatives, catalysts for polyurethane and pharmaceuticals.

Betty Lu, Vice President of Perstorp Oxo Operations, states: "As industries recover and adapt to the ongoing pandemic, 2-EHA demand increased significantly in the last two quarters, demonstrating growing demand for high-quality raw materials. We have continued to successfully serve our customers with 2-EHA and are now investing in this expansion to meet future needs."

Sam Chia, Perstorp Operations Manager, adds: "We see that market development for various applications where 2-EHA is critical requires us to respond with increased production capacity. We are currently in the implementation phase and expect to supply more 2-EHA to the market within slightly more than six months from now."

Perstorp recently also launched 2-Ethylhexanoic Acid Pro, a partially renewable version of 2-EHA based on a mass balance concept implementing physical and chemical traceability, with 25% of the product based on renewable raw materials. 2-EHA Pro is one of several products in Perstorp's Pro-Environment portfolio, all ISCC PLUS certified and designed to help customers reduce their carbon footprint.
