Hyundai Motor Group Announces Strategic Partnership with Korea Aerospace Industries

Hyundai Motor Company, together with its subsidiary Supernal, will combine its EV and electric powertrain capabilities with Korea Aerospace Industries' expertise in composite aircraft development.

Hyundai Motor Company and its subsidiary Supernal will combine EV and electric propulsion system capabilities with Korea Aerospace Industries' expertise in composite aircraft development.

Hyundai Motor Group and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop future Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) solutions.
The agreement was signed with the participation of senior executives including Jaehoon Chang, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, and Jong-chul Kim, President and CEO of KAI. The collaboration between the two parties will focus on the joint development of an AAM aircraft based on electric aviation propulsion systems.

Gang Hyun Seo, Head of the Hyundai Motor Group Corporate Planning Office, stated: "This partnership with Korea Aerospace Industries, one of the leaders in South Korea's aerospace sector, represents an important step in our efforts to develop future air mobility solutions. We aim to realize safe and efficient Advanced Air Mobility solutions and extend the boundaries of mobility to the skies."

Under the agreement, the parties will jointly develop and mass-produce competitive future air mobility vehicles by leveraging Hyundai Motor Group's expertise in developing electric aviation propulsion systems and KAI's aircraft fuselage development capabilities. The collaboration encompasses a broad-scale partnership extending beyond technology and human resource sharing, including supply chains, certification processes, and global customer networks.

Supernal, the US-based Advanced Air Mobility subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, and KAI will jointly develop the AAM aircraft. Separately, Hyundai Motor Group and KAI will collaborate on the commercialization of electric aviation propulsion systems developed by the Hyundai Motor Group Aviation Propulsion Systems Division. Additionally, the two companies plan to identify new areas of cooperation in the aerospace sector and further expand their partnership.

Hyundai Motor Group and KAI aim to accelerate the development of safe and innovative next-generation aviation solutions by combining their expertise in electrification and aerospace.
