Clariant Türkiye Supports TURMEPA's Project

TURMEPA's "Children Code Water. H2Okullu Became!" project, which was launched in October 2018 with support from Istanbul Development Agency, Istanbul Provincial Administration, Sarıyer District National Education Directorate and Istanbul Technical University, was further strengthened with Clariant Turkey as sponsor. With Clariant's support, the STEAM laboratory established within the project will be developed, and the project's closing fair will be enriched. The project aims for children to receive STEAM education under the mentorship of trained teachers at an early age and to develop their own projects through coding and educational training. Children receiving training are expected to learn how to evaluate the data they obtain by analyzing water, thereby developing their creativity, inquiry, research and innovative capabilities. Fatih Tantekin, Head of Clariant Corporate Sustainability Unit Turkey, Middle East and Africa, expressed his views on the subject as follows: "The prosperity of humanity and the environment and the function of the economy ultimately depend on the responsible management of our planet's natural resources. In this direction, our cooperation with TURMEPA is a very important opportunity to emphasize Clariant's sensitivity on this matter. We are proud to support this project, which aims to raise a generation that is more environmentally conscious, responsible and aware, as its main sponsor and to be part of such an important project," he said. Through the project's marine trainings that began in February, 4,905 students and 364 teachers from 28 schools have been reached to date. After 60 teachers from 27 schools that completed the trainings completed their STEAM In-Service Training at the STEAM laboratory established at Mehmet Akif Secondary School, they earned the right to receive their certificates. Teachers formed teams with students selected from among volunteers in their own schools, determining which subjects they would focus on and what resources they would use. Some schools that scheduled programs to work over the summer vacation attended design courses at the Maker Workshop and had the opportunity to send a selected student on scholarship to the Maker Summer Camp. The project will end in March 2020.
