L'Oréal Türkiye Extends Sustainability Vision Across Its Entire Value Chain

Techno-beauty leader L'Oréal Türkiye continues to strengthen its sustainability approach across the entire value chain, from suppliers to consumers, as part of World Environment Day. Shaped around science, green innovation and the circular economy, the approach aims to reduce environmental impact while creating social benefit.

Beauty-tech leader L'Oréal Turkey continues to strengthen its sustainability approach across the entire value chain from suppliers to consumers on World Environment Day. The approach, shaped around science, green innovation and circular economy, aims to create social benefits while reducing environmental impacts.

L'Oréal Turkey, which places sustainability at the center of its business model, is integrating practices developed to reduce environmental and social impacts across all operations. The company pursues its fight against the environmental challenges facing the world along three core pillars: green science, circular economy and holistic ecosystem approach.

İrem Karaoda Tanrıkulu, Director of Corporate Relations and Engagement and Country Sustainability Leader at L'Oréal Turkey, stressed that sustainability is no longer a choice but a shared responsibility, and stated:

"Sustainability is now a shared responsibility of us all for the future of our planet. At L'Oréal Turkey, we see this transformation as an integral part of all our business processes, from product development to supply chain. World Environment Day provides an important opportunity to share the work we are doing and invite all our stakeholders to act together for a more sustainable future. Through projects we are implementing as part of our 'L'Oréal for the Future' program, we aim to create a more inclusive and sustainable beauty ecosystem."

Green Science and Technological Innovation at the Center of Transformation
L'Oréal Turkey believes that sustainable transformation begins at the product development stage. The company aims to source 95% of the ingredients used in product formulas by 2030 from bio-based sources, abundant minerals or circular processes.

One important example of this approach is L'Oréal's patented molecule Pro-Xylane, which is derived from a natural sugar and produced entirely through water-based reactions. This contributes to reducing environmental impact.

The company also stands out with its technologies aimed at reducing water consumption. Hair care products requiring less rinsing and micellar water technology enabling makeup removal without water reduce daily water consumption for consumers, while L'Oréal Professionnel GJOSA Water Saver technology developed for professional salons achieves up to 69% water savings in rinsing processes.

Resource Efficiency Increases with Circular Economy Approach
L'Oréal Turkey moves away from the traditional "take-make-dispose" model and integrates the circular economy approach into all business processes. The company optimizes material use in packaging designs and implements measures to reduce carbon footprint in logistics processes.

The company conducts luxury consumption and professional product distributions in Istanbul entirely with electric vehicles, preventing approximately 58 tons of carbon emissions annually. Through reusable box systems, approximately 400 tons of water are saved annually.

L'Oréal Turkey's refillable product solutions also offer significant savings in packaging use. Through these practices, reductions of between 59% and 75% are achieved in plastic and glass use, while packaging waste is reduced by an average of 70%.

Sustainability Expands Throughout Supply Chain
L'Oréal Turkey believes that sustainable transformation is possible only with the participation of all stakeholders. In line with this, the company includes suppliers in its sustainability targets. As part of the "L'Oréal for the Future" program, strategic suppliers are targeted to reduce direct emissions by 50% compared to 2019 levels by 2030.

The company does not merely set targets for suppliers; it supports transformation processes through training, knowledge sharing and technology support.

Viewing social benefit as an integral part of its sustainability approach, L'Oréal Turkey pursues inclusive procurement policies supporting female entrepreneurs, individuals with disabilities and SMEs. Of the 146 employees supported through the supply chain in Turkey, 61% are accounted for by female entrepreneurs and 39% by SMEs.

Placing scientific innovation, resource efficiency and stakeholder collaboration at its core, L'Oréal Turkey emphasizes on the occasion of World Environment Day that sustainability must be addressed not only in its environmental dimension but also in its economic and social dimensions, and continues its work steadfastly toward a more sustainable future.
