Çimko Increases Alternative Fuel Use by 63% in Five Years

Çimko accelerates sustainable production transformation through renewable energy investments, alternative fuel use and resource efficiency practices, allocating TRY 37 million to social investments in 2025.

Çimko, SANKO Holding's leading company in the cement and ready-mix concrete sectors, has published its 2025 Sustainability Report prepared under the theme "Strengthened Together". The report shares the company's performance in energy transformation, carbon management, alternative fuel use, water efficiency, digital production technologies and social investments, along with targets for the coming period.

Prepared in accordance with Turkish Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS) and in compliance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, the report demonstrates concrete steps taken by Çimko in environmental, social and governance areas.

"We view sustainability as a strategic competitive advantage"
Çimko CEO Dr. Önder Kırca, drawing attention to the cement sector's high energy requirements and carbon-intensive structure, said:

"2025 was a period in which we brought our sustainability efforts into a more systematic, measurable and integrated structure. While reducing dependence on fossil fuels in our production processes, we increased alternative fuel use. Through waste heat recovery systems, we recovered energy released from production back into the economy. In line with changing global regulations and carbon border adjustment mechanisms, we continue to adapt our business model to future requirements. We position sustainability not merely as an environmental responsibility, but also as a strategic factor that enhances our competitive strength and operational resilience."

Significant growth in alternative fuel use
Focusing on alternative fuel and alternative raw material use to increase resource efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, Çimko used approximately 130,000 tonnes of alternative fuel and 70,000 tonnes of alternative raw materials in 2025.

The company, prioritizing waste with biomass content and waste with high calorific value, achieved a weighted average alternative fuel thermal substitution rate of 17.2 percent across its plants. This represents an approximately 63 percent increase compared to 2020.

In the same period, the biomass-based thermal substitution rate recorded a 174 percent increase.

Renewable energy investments prevented 65,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions
Continuing its investments in energy transformation, Çimko increased its renewable energy capacity with solar energy investments totaling 49 MW installed capacity.

The company achieved annual energy savings of 69,000 MWh through Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHR) at its facilities. Meeting approximately 25 percent of total electricity consumption through renewable energy investments, Çimko thereby prevented approximately 65,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

63 percent of water used in ready-mix concrete plants recovered
Treating water management as an important component of its sustainability strategy, Çimko has regularly calculated its water footprint since 2021.

In 2025, approximately 190,000 cubic metres of water was recovered in cement plants and reused in production processes. This volume corresponds to approximately 14 percent of total water used in the plants.

In ready-mix concrete facilities, 63 percent of water used was recovered and reused.

The company demonstrated its achievement of being placed on the A List in CDP Climate Change and Water Security Programmes in its first reporting year, based on its performance in water and climate management.

TRY 37 million allocated to social investments
Çimko extends its sustainability approach beyond environmental performance, continuing projects aimed at social development.

In 2025, the company allocated TRY 37 million for social investment projects. Projects focused on education, child development and equal opportunity formed an important portion of these investments.

Through the MakerUp programme conducted in cooperation with UNICEF, support was provided to develop children's creative thinking, problem-solving and digital literacy skills, reaching hundreds of children at centres in Gaziantep and Adıyaman.

Through Skills and Talents Centres (BEYEM) implemented in Hatay and Adıyaman in cooperation with SosyalBen Foundation, science, technology and production-focused educational programmes were supported, reaching 2,800 students.

As a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UN Global Compact), Çimko continues to develop its work in environmental, social and governance areas in line with international standards.
