Lockheed Martin and Albany Engineered Composites announced that they have signed a collaboration agreement to accelerate the development of mission-ready hypersonic capabilities suitable for high production volumes, at the speed and scale demanded by the U.S. Department of War (DoW).
Albany Engineered Composites, operating under Albany International Corp., designs and manufactures advanced engineered composite components for engine and airframe applications on commercial and military aircraft, missiles, and unmanned vehicles. Albany’s specialty composite solutions enable current and next-generation aircraft to achieve higher performance while being more fuel-efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.
Bringing together Lockheed Martin’s proven system integration experience with Albany’s agile composite manufacturing capability, the team is preparing to evaluate future full-scale production opportunities in hypersonic weapons programs.
“The future of hypersonic systems requires more than breakthrough designs; it also demands that advanced composite structures be manufacturable at an unprecedented scale,” said Chris Stone, President of Albany Engineered Composites. “This partnership brings together Lockheed Martin’s proven architecture with Albany’s advanced composite technologies and agile manufacturing capabilities, enabling us to deliver the speed and quality the Department of War needs with a low-risk solution.”
