Palm Oil Among Leading Vegetable Oils in Sustainable Food Production

The technical performance, quality standards and sustainability of vegetable oils used in food production are gaining increasing importance. Experts emphasize that when processed through proper refining, quality control and sustainable supply chains, palm oil serves as a reliable and functional raw material for the food industry.

The technical performance, quality standards and sustainability of vegetable oils used in food production are becoming increasingly important. Experts emphasize that palm oil, when evaluated through proper refining, quality control and sustainable supply processes, is a reliable and functional raw material for the food industry.

The technical properties of vegetable oils used in the food sector, product quality and sustainability performance are among the priority agendas of manufacturers. In this context, palm oil is among the widely used vegetable oils in the food industry thanks to its natural composition and the ability to be separated into different fractions through physical methods.

Palm mid-fractions, derivatives such as palm olein and super palm olein; are preferred in many food applications due to formulation flexibility, oxidative stability, product texture and cost advantages. Palm kernel oil, on the other hand, provides significant advantages particularly in different food formulations with its functional properties in terms of melting profile, structure and mouthfeel.

Scientific approach comes to the forefront
While noting that public discourse on palm oil sometimes contains assessments that do not align with scientific data, experts point out that the matter should be addressed on a scientific basis.

It is stated that palm oil, through proper refining methods, quality control applications and sustainable supply processes, ranks among raw materials that can be safely used like other refined vegetable oils. Scientific studies and research and development activities demonstrate that evaluating palm oil in its correct applications of use can contribute both to the sector's innovation capacity and to consumers' access to quality and affordable food.

Dr. Fahri Yemişçioğlu: "Palm oil should be evaluated in light of scientific data"
Food Engineer Dr. Fahri Yemişçioğlu, noting that palm oil is an important raw material for the food industry due to its technical properties, made the following assessment:

"Palm oil is an important raw material in the food industry due to its technical properties and functional structure. The critical point here is that this oil should be evaluated in light of scientific data, with proper quality standards and a sustainable supply approach. For our sector, it is of great importance that palm oils, like other refined vegetable oils, be approached objectively in research and development and production processes."

Yemişçioğlu stated that palm oil provides important functional advantages in food applications in terms of texture, structure and consistency, while also contributing to the stable preservation of product quality.

Emphasizing that palm oil should be evaluated based on scientific data rather than misinformation, Yemişçioğlu said that this product continues to rank among important vegetable oil alternatives in terms of the food industry's performance, quality and economic accessibility objectives.
