Five-Year Contribution to a Blue Future from Yorglass with the “Seas Like Glass” Project
Yorglass has completed the fifth year of its “Seas Like Glass” project, carried out in cooperation with the TURMEPA/Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association. Within the scope of the work conducted in the Selimiye bays of Marmaris, 170,385 liters of liquid waste were collected from 983 boats during the 2026 season. Thus, the total amount of liquid waste prevented from reaching the sea throughout the project reached 1,162,987 liters. The efforts contributed to the protection of marine ecosystems and the reduction of marine pollution.

In line with its sustainability approach, Yorglass continues its efforts to protect the seas through long-term collaborations. The “Seas Like Glass” project, launched by the company in 2022 together with TURMEPA/Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association, focused once again in its fifth season on preventing liquid waste generated by boats in the Selimiye bays of Marmaris from mixing into the sea.

Combating Marine Pollution in the Selimiye Bays
The DenizTemiz 4 boat, which served the project during the 2026 season, collected a total of 170,385 liters of liquid waste from 983 boats in the Selimiye bays. Of this amount, 35,385 liters were obtained from 165 boats visited in September. Thus, the direct discharge of waste generated on boats into the marine environment was prevented.

It was noted that the amount of waste collected within the scope of the project corresponds to approximately one day’s wastewater production of 808 people, and it was reported that the efforts also contributed to keeping seawater clean and preventing greenhouse gas emissions.

Over 1.16 Million Liters of Liquid Waste Collected in Five Years
The results achieved over the years within the scope of the “Seas Like Glass” project reveal the long-term impact of the efforts. Thanks to the project, 112,632 liters of liquid waste were prevented from reaching the sea in the 2022 season, 500,000 liters in 2023, 154,970 liters in 2024, and 225,000 liters in 2025.

With the 170,385 liters of waste collected in the 2026 season, the five-year total reached 1,162,987 liters. This result demonstrates the importance of continuity in efforts aimed at protecting the seas and of long-term collaborations.

“Protecting the Seas Means Protecting the Life of the Future”
Yorglass Chairman of the Board Semavi Yorgancılar, in his assessment regarding the fifth year of the project, drew attention to the fact that protecting marine ecosystems is a long-term responsibility.

Yorgancılar said, “The healthy continuation of marine ecosystems is of critical importance for the living conditions of the future. For this reason, we attach great importance to strengthening our environmental responsibility through long-term collaborations rather than limiting it to periodic efforts. The ‘Seas Like Glass’ project, which we have been carrying out with TURMEPA for five years, is a strong example of this approach. At the end of the fifth season, we contributed to keeping approximately 9.3 million liters of seawater clean. This figure shows how continuity in the field of sustainability can turn into a concrete environmental impact. We will continue to contribute to the future of blue waters and to expand our responsibility in this area.”

“We Improve Our Efforts Every Year with the Experience We Gain in the Field”
TURMEPA Chairman of the Board Şadan Kaptanoğlu stated that the cooperation sustained with Yorglass is of great importance for the protection of the seas.

Kaptanoğlu said, “The cooperation we have sustained with Yorglass for five years is of great importance for our efforts to protect our seas. Our ongoing work in Marmaris Selimiye shows that marine cleanup can only create a real impact through a long-term and determined approach. Thanks to the experience we gain in the field, we follow the needs of the region more closely and improve our efforts every year.

It is extremely valuable to us that Yorglass has been part of this effort for five years and supports the protection of our seas with a long-term approach. As we complete this season, we see the awareness we have contributed to creating in the region as an important achievement, just as much as the waste we have removed from the sea surface. Because protecting the future of the seas is not only about combating existing pollution, but also about making the consciousness of protecting the seas permanent. We thank Yorglass for standing by us for five years and for its valuable contributions to the future of our seas,” she said.
