Sabancı Renewables Expands US Solar Energy Portfolio with Pepper GES

Sabancı Renewables, which aims to become a major player in the clean energy transition through its investments in the United States, is steadily continuing its projects that reduce carbon emissions and support regional development. In line with this vision, the company signed a purchase agreement with OCI Energy to add the new Pepper solar power plant, located in McLennan County, Texas, to its portfolio.
Sabancı Renewables, targeting a significant role in clean energy transformation through its US investments, continues steadily advancing projects that reduce carbon emissions and support regional development. Aligned with this vision, the company has signed a purchase agreement with OCI Energy to add the new Pepper solar power plant located in McLennan County, Texas to its portfolio.
Sabancı Group, blending its deep expertise in the energy sector with a century-long rooted history, is expanding this accumulated knowledge through strategic moves that project Turkey onto the global stage. In Turkey, Sabancı Holding demonstrates strong competence through Enerjisa Üretim, which plays a critical role in the country's energy supply security with installed capacity exceeding 4,000 MW and 30 plants, and is now transferring this competence to the global arena, steadily pursuing energy investments in the US through its 100 percent subsidiary Sabancı Renewables.
With the Pepper solar project located in Texas, targeting a capacity of 156 MWdc upon completion, Sabancı Renewables will add significant installed capacity to its portfolio. Through this investment, the company is further strengthening its presence in the US both in scale and geographic diversification.
Sabancı Renewables Gaining Momentum in the US
The Pepper solar project is positioned in the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) energy market, where Sabancı Renewables already operates through its Cutlass II and Oriana solar investments. With construction work scheduled to commence as of December 2025, the Pepper project represents a significant milestone for Sabancı Renewables, which is preparing to raise total installed capacity to approximately 660 MWdc upon commissioning. The company has set a portfolio target of 3,000 MWdc for the next five-year period.
In his assessment regarding the new investment, Tolga Kaan Doğancıoğlu, Chief Executive Officer of Sabancı Climate Technologies, stated: "We are continuing our renewable energy growth journey in the US with steady steps. The journey we launched with the Cutlass II and Oriana solar projects is now proceeding with approximately 500 MWdc of installed capacity. With the addition of the Pepper project to our portfolio, we aim to reach a total of 660 MWdc. We do not view this picture merely as today's success, but rather as a milestone of our 3,000 MWdc renewable energy vision that we target in the medium term. The deep-rooted expertise and operational competence gained from the successfully managed diversified energy portfolio in Turkey constitute the strongest foundation for the steps we are taking in the US market today. Establishing a presence with three projects in a strategic market like ERCOT is a testament to our confidence in this region and our commitment to investment.
We are investing in the most active regions of ERCOT—Houston, North, and South energy zones—to ensure strategic diversification. Through our renewable energy investments, we are reducing carbon emissions while also contributing employment and development to local economies. Upon reaching full capacity, this project will generate approximately 292 GWh of clean energy annually, contributing significantly to the US climate goals and renewable energy transition. The generated energy equates to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 28,000 households in Texas. At the same time, we aim to create a strong environmental sustainability impact by preventing approximately 133,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. We are determined to build bridges for a better future. With this strategic step, we are going beyond merely being a company investing in the US; we are experiencing the satisfaction of being a player that builds, operates, and shapes the future on the ground. We will continue moving forward with value-added projects."
