PepsiCo Türkiye Returns Water Used in Its Factories to Nature Through “A Drop, A World Project”

PepsiCo Turkey continues efforts to return more water to nature than it uses in its factories.

Through the "One Drop One World Project" implemented in collaboration with the Nature Conservation Center (DKM), the project supports farmers in regions where factories are located to transition to modern irrigation methods, thereby reducing water consumption in agriculture. Within the project scope, in 2024, 100% of the water used at the Manisa factory, 94% of the water used at the İzmir factory, and 58% of the water used at the Tarsus factory were returned to nature.

PepsiCo Turkey works to return the operational water it uses in its factories to basins through the "One Drop One World Project". In collaboration with the Nature Conservation Center, the company continues to expand the project, which began in 2023 in the Berdan basin where the Tarsus factory is located, continued in 2024 in Manisa and İzmir, and will continue in 2025 in the basins where the Adana factory is located, to all basins where PepsiCo factories in Turkey are situated.

Noting that water use in industry and agriculture is one of the important topics in managing this resource, Esra İren, Senior Director of Corporate Relations and Sustainability at PepsiCo Turkey, stated: "To contribute to securing the future of water on our sustainability path, we conduct many activities ranging from efficient water use to ecosystem restoration and collaborate with expert organizations on this matter.

With this approach, we continue to expand the social impact we create not only in our own production processes but also through projects we implement in various fields, particularly agriculture. With the awareness that water risk is high in agriculture, we invested particularly in pressurized irrigation technologies such as drip irrigation that reduce water use, expanded the adoption of these systems, and reduced water use in agricultural production in the basins where our factories are located by 25%."

Emphasizing that PepsiCo factories aim to return the amount of operational water used to basins, Esra İren, Senior Director of Corporate Relations and Sustainability at PepsiCo Turkey, stated: "Through the 'One Drop One World Project', which we initiated in the Berdan basin in 2023 in collaboration with the Nature Conservation Center, we are working to return the water we use at our Tarsus factory to the basin and our farmers. We expanded this project from Tarsus to Manisa, İzmir, and Adana. In this context, in 2024, we returned 100% of the water used at our Manisa factory, 94% of the water used at our İzmir factory, and 58% of the water used at our Tarsus factory to nature, while supporting our farmers in the regions where the project is being implemented regarding modern irrigation methods and contributing to the protection and efficient use of water."

PepsiCo Turkey attracts attention through the activities it implements under the headings "Use less water, return water, and increase access to clean water" and the partnerships it develops to expand the impact that will be created in water management. PepsiCo Turkey collaborates with the Nature Conservation Center, which has been working for over 20 years to effectively protect biodiversity and sustainably manage natural resources in the "One Drop One World Project".

Since its establishment, the Nature Conservation Center has been monitoring implementations in different parts of the world and focusing on developing new tools and methods for biodiversity protection, sustainable resource use, and climate change adaptation. The DKM supports the "One Drop One World Project" with the practical solutions it has developed.
