Anadolu Efes Shapes the Future of Agriculture

Anadolu Efes launched the "Farm to Bottle Restoration" programme in 2024 in collaboration with Anadolu Meraları to make the agricultural ecosystem more resilient against the climate crisis, thereby taking a pioneering step in integrating regenerative farming practices into the supply chain.

Regenerative farming plays an important role in addressing the climate crisis and biodiversity crisis. According to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development's (WBCSD) "Shaping the Future Of Farming" report, regenerative farming currently covers approximately 15% of global cropland. The same report emphasizes that to limit climate change to a 1.5-degree temperature increase, this ratio needs to reach 40% by 2030 globally.

Under the "Farm to Bottle Restoration" programme, the company began implementing regenerative farming practices in pilot regions, while simultaneously focusing on developing the ecosystem's knowledge, skills and capabilities in this field. In collaboration with Anadolu Meraları, it also created a resource in the agricultural sector and published the sector's first Regenerative Farming Guide.

Research shows that food systems are among the leading causes of rapid biodiversity loss and account for 70% of global water use. "Regenerative farming," which is increasingly being adopted by institutions globally as a solution, plays a very important role in agricultural production due to positive impacts such as contributing to nature, soil health, water supply and quality, nutrient and carbon cycles. While regenerative farming currently covers approximately 15% of global cropland, it is emphasized that this ratio needs to reach 40% by 2030 to limit climate change to a 1.5-degree temperature increase. Practices that improve soil health increase carbon sequestration capacity over the long term, while improving water retention capacity and enriching biodiversity.

Anadolu Efes continues to develop new initiatives and projects to contribute to the sustainability of its agriculture under the motto "There is a future in farming, farming has a future!" Starting with smart farming practices in 2018, in 2024 the company launched the "Farm to Bottle Restoration" programme with Anadolu Meraları, a social enterprise that develops regenerative systems to increase the resilience of the agricultural ecosystem against the climate crisis and produces solutions to ecological and social problems. Anadolu Efes aims to map its supply network and transform it into a regenerative community infrastructure, and to promote the widespread adoption of regenerative farming and holistic management approaches. At the same time, by prioritizing farmer welfare and the protection of natural resources, it seeks to create a production ecosystem in harmony with nature.
