Roche Diagnostik Türkiye and Türk Eğitim Derneği launch "Healthy Future Through Education" project aimed at raising health awareness among future generations Roche Diagnostik Türkiye and Türk Eğitim Derneği (TED) have launched the "Healthy Future Through Education" project to increase awareness among TED Full Scholarship high school students and their families studying at state schools in Ankara and Istanbul regarding access to healthcare. Online training sessions for the project, which was developed based on a needs assessment conducted by Türk Eğitim Derneği among students and parents, have begun. The Healthy Future Through Education project, implemented in cooperation with Roche Diagnostik Türkiye and Türk Eğitim Derneği, was designed for high school students and families using TED's Full Scholarship program and studying at state schools in Ankara and Istanbul. The "Healthy Future Through Education" project aims to increase participants' awareness of healthcare access during the 2020-2021 academic year. Through training provided by experts on topics such as hygiene, personal care, and adolescence, young people are expected to develop behaviors that will positively influence their peers and surroundings. Based on findings from the needs assessment study, the first training session under the education program took place on 28 November via Zoom.

324 students and their families will benefit from the project

Under the project, 324 students and their families will receive training from subject matter experts in both joint and separate sessions. Joint training sessions will include Health as a Fundamental Human Right, Hygiene and Home Health Training, Nutrition and Healthy Food Training, Disease Diagnosis and Its Importance, Covid-19 and Other Communicable Diseases Training, First Aid at Home Training, Oral and Dental Health Training, and the Role of Sports in Developing Healthy Individuals.

Special training to be provided to students and parents

In addition to joint training sessions, students are planned to receive Personal Care Training, Adolescence and Adolescent Health Training, Psychosocial Development Training, Substance Use Risk and Substance Abuse Prevention, and Emotional Intelligence Training, while parents will receive Child Health and Care Training, Child Development Training, Basic Vaccines Training, Birth Control and Family Planning Training, Substance Abuse Training for Parents, Women's Health, Routine Follow-ups and the Importance of Regular Testing, and Awareness Training. Burçak Çelik, General Director of Roche Diagnostik Türkiye and Head of the Türkiye & Central Asia and Caucasus Countries Management Center, made the following statement regarding the project: "As Roche Diagnostik, our aim is to improve people's lives. With this mission and belief, we continuously undertake activities that benefit society. Now, together with Türk Eğitim Derneği, we are bringing the 'Healthy Future Through Education' project to life.

The main objective of our project is to contribute to raising the level of social awareness on many critical issues such as health rights, hygiene conditions, communicable diseases, and the disease diagnosis process as a society. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us once again how important such a need is. For a healthy society, every individual making up that society must have high health awareness.

We believe that one of the best ways to achieve this is to equip our young people with qualified knowledge in this field. We aim for students and families to become more conscious through the training in our project and to contribute to the creation of a healthier society by sharing the knowledge, skills, and experience they will gain with those around them." Selçuk Pehlivanoğlu, Chairman of Türk Eğitim Derneği, said: "As Türk Eğitim Derneği, with awareness of the importance of education and the role it plays in establishing public health, we are pleased to put our signature on this meaningful project by prioritizing our students who have limited access to mechanisms that will increase this awareness in society. With the support of our stakeholder Roche Diagnostik Türkiye, we wish to increase health awareness in our society and lay the foundations for a sustainable life for our future generations." The needs assessment conducted prior to the project determined the project's focus areas while also revealing striking findings regarding societal health awareness. As part of the needs assessment, a survey conducted among 245 students aged 15 to 18 from Istanbul and Ankara revealed that the vast majority felt healthy, but there were also students who did not feel healthy due to factors such as fatigue, overweight, and vitamin deficiency. Another notable finding of the survey was the sources from which students obtain health-related information. According to the results, 72 percent of students generally obtain health-related information from the internet and television, while the proportion of students who obtain this information from their families is 28 percent.
