On 29 April, students and sector professionals gathered at Ege University to highlight the importance of accurate information in food production and sustainability. The event evaluated common misconceptions about palm oil and vegetable oils in light of scientific data.
The programme featured expert speakers from various disciplines, with discussions ranging from food manufacturing processes to innovation. Participants emphasized the importance of science-based approaches in the food sector.
Food Engineer Dr. Fahri Yemişçioğlu, speaking at the event, noted that food production is a multidisciplinary process and stated that vegetable oils play a critical role in the food industry through their functional properties. Yemişçioğlu pointed out that palm oil is preferred in many products due to its balanced fatty acid composition and stability.

Quality Control Specialist Duygu Polat noted in her assessment that rather than classifying oils as "good" or "bad," production quality and the technology used are the determining factors. Polat stressed that potential risks have been largely controlled through advancing production technologies and that food safety standards are becoming increasingly systematic.
The event also highlighted that through regulations in force in Turkey and aligned with the European Union, discussions on food production and contents are being addressed within a more scientific and legal framework.
Experts underscored that disseminating accurate information in the food sector is critical both for consumer confidence and sustainable production.
