Notably, Milliken increased the diversity of its U.S. management team by 8 percent and announced that its entire flooring portfolio is now carbon neutral.
Halsey Cook, President and Chief Executive Officer of Milliken & Company, states, "Our shared purpose and material science expertise make Milliken unique. We not only embrace our ability to create a positive impact on the world around us, but also our responsibility to build a healthier future for this generation and generations to come."
Milliken's fourth report, completed in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards: Core, details comprehensive sustainability progress recorded in 2021. These efforts include:
• Recording zero lost-time safety incidents due to COVID-19; • Logging 27,000 volunteer hours – the largest number in company history; • Establishing partnerships with groups such as Circular Accelerator, Polypropylene Coalition, PureCycle Technologies, and Alliance to End Plastic Waste to support expertise in addressing end-of-life product challenges; • Upgrading lighting to LED in 13 production facilities, reducing GHG emissions by 3,000 metric tons, and marking the midpoint toward the goal of converting all production facility lighting to LED by the end of 2023; and • Increasing renewable energy usage to 97,608 MWh/year, exceeding 97 percent of the 2025 target of 100,000 MWh/year.
Kasel Knight, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, states, "This year's report cover features an image from the Everest documentary, which details the dramatic true story of a team of four mountaineers climbing a mountain. Milliken and Polartec are sponsoring the re-release of this film on its 25th anniversary. For us, this story of teamwork, hope, and determination fit naturally with our 2021 report. Our goals are high, but we know that by working together we can reach brighter and healthier tomorrows."
