Luminopia, Inc., a digital health company pioneering a new class of treatment for neuro-visual disorders, has announced its first international licensing agreement with ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., LTD, a Japanese multinational company specializing in consumer products and pharmaceuticals. Amblyopia (lazy eye) is the leading cause of vision loss in children worldwide and affects approximately 2% of children in Japan. Luminopia offers a modern, FDA-approved treatment that allows pediatric patients to watch television through virtual reality (VR) goggles for one hour a day, six days a week, as therapy.
Luminopia, Inc., a digital health company pioneering a new treatment class for neuro-visual disorders, announced its first international licensing agreement with ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., LTD, a Japanese multinational company specializing in consumer products and pharmaceuticals. Amblyopia (lazy eye) is the leading cause of vision loss in children worldwide and affects approximately two percent of children in Japan. Luminopia offers a modern, FDA-approved treatment that enables pediatric patients to watch television through virtual reality (VR) glasses for one hour daily, six days a week as therapy.
Under the agreement, ROHTO receives exclusive rights to develop and commercialize Luminopia's pediatric amblyopia digital treatment in the Japanese market. Per the terms of the agreement, ROHTO will conduct clinical development and commercialization efforts in Japan. Luminopia founder and CEO Scott Xiao stated, "This partnership with ROHTO represents validation of both our technology and its potential impact in the Japanese market. ROHTO's strong relationships with Japanese ophthalmologists, established brand, and extensive experience working with the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency make them an ideal partner." Despite Japan's robust pediatric vision screening programs, amblyopia treatment has seen little innovation in the past decade. Luminopia offers a fundamentally new approach by making treatment more enjoyable and improving adherence and outcomes, as children receive therapy by watching popular TV series and films through VR glasses.
