Continental Accelerates Energy Transition with First Wind Power Plant Investment

Technology company and premium tire manufacturer Continental has made a major investment decision in line with its sustainability and energy independence goals. The company will build its first wind power plant to meet the energy needs of its tire factory in Korbach, in the German state of Hesse. Construction of the project, scheduled to begin in 2026, is also expected to serve as a model for Continental's global production network.

Technology company and premium tire manufacturer Continental has made a significant investment decision in line with its sustainability and energy independence targets. The company will commission its first wind energy power plant (RES) to meet the energy needs of its Korbach tire factory in Germany's Hessen state. Construction of the project, planned to begin in 2026, will serve as a model for Continental's global production network.

Continental will build a wind energy power plant consisting of three wind turbines near the Korbach tire factory in Germany's Hessen state. Through this investment, which will operate in integration with existing solar energy systems, the goal is to meet approximately two-thirds of the factory's electricity demand from renewable energy sources. Construction of the project is planned to begin in 2026, with commissioning expected within approximately 18 months.

Two-Thirds of Electricity Demand to be Met from Renewable Energy
Three modern wind turbines to be installed in the Twistetal region, approximately 8 kilometers from the Korbach factory, will directly transfer the electricity they generate to the factory's production processes.

The power plant, planned to generate approximately 55 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, will have the capacity to provide energy equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 15,000 households. When considered together with existing solar energy systems, approximately two-thirds of the facility's total electricity demand will be met from the company's own renewable energy sources.

"We Will Increase Predictability in Energy Costs"
Continental Tire Group Head of Production and Logistics Dr. Bernhard Trilken emphasized the strategic importance of the investment for the company, stating:

"By investing in our own renewable energy sources, we aim to become less affected by energy market fluctuations and increase the competitiveness of our production. This project will serve as an important model for our other facilities worldwide."

Contributing to Reduction of Carbon Emissions
Continental continues to accelerate its investments in energy transition within the scope of sustainable production targets.

Since 2020, the company has sourced all electricity purchased worldwide from renewable energy sources. Over the past four years, Continental has reduced greenhouse gas emissions resulting from tire production by approximately 180,000 tons, and as of 2026 has completely eliminated coal and heavy fuel-oil use across all production facilities.

Today, the company continues to develop a lower carbon footprint production model by integrating renewable electricity, biomass, biogas and other alternative energy sources into its production processes.
