Axalta announced that it is using its global operations and accumulated technical expertise to supply critical equipment and products to people and organizations worldwide. Axalta CEO Robert Bryant, noting that Axalta is steadfastly continuing its worldwide efforts to ensure the safety, health and welfare of hospital workers, first responders and employees, shared his thoughts: "Our Axalta family around the world is coming together to harness our collective energy and resources to help fight coronavirus in the communities where we live, work and raise our families. Whether in hospital rooms, ambulances or production floors, we are deploying our production capacity and inventories to deliver products that will make a difference where they are needed most. We will continue to use our capabilities to the fullest in our mission to serve the community and the real heroes on the front lines of this fight."
For several months, Axalta has been on the front lines of fighting coronavirus. Within the scope of Axalta's coronavirus outbreak relief initiatives, it is conducting many activities. These include;
  • Production of thousands of kilograms of hand sanitizer. To produce thousands of kilograms of hand sanitizer meeting the high standards of the World Health Organization, Axalta's facilities in Front Royal, Virginia, USA; Mount Clemens, Michigan, USA; Tlalnepantla, Mexico; Guarulhos, Brazil and Wuppertal, Germany are shifting to production. This vital product will be donated to local hospitals and first responder teams and will also be used in Axalta facilities to ensure the safety of employees and their families.
  • Distribution of much-needed PPE to hospitals worldwide. Axalta is donating personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks, coveralls, closed decontaminators and protective covers, including N-95 inventory, to hospitals around the world. PPE normally worn in Axalta's production facilities and by its customers can now be used by medical professionals to reduce the risk of contact or transmission of coronavirus. To date, these donations have taken place in the USA, France, Belgium and Germany.
  • Provision of seat covers to medical professionals. Axalta is donating more than 5,000 seat covers and protective materials, typically used in workshops, to local hospitals in need. Medical professionals visiting patients affected by COVID-19 will be able to use these seat covers in their own vehicles to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission.
To rapidly meet the critical needs of a major customer, in February Axalta granted special production authorization to its Changchun, China facility to manufacture coatings for ambulance fleets experiencing high demand due to the outbreak in China, after all employee safety requirements were met.
