Panacol's black epoxy resin adhesives deliver superior mechanical properties and provide reliable bonding results. Panacol has launched its first series of UV-curable black epoxy resin adhesives. Marketed under the "Black&Light" brand, Vitralit® BL UC 1101, Vitralit® BL UC 1102 and Vitralit® BL UC 1103 can be cured in thicker layers using UV light alone and eliminate the need for a secondary curing mechanism. Another key advantage of Black&Light adhesives is that they can be transported and stored at room temperature. These conventional one-component, black epoxy adhesives must be transported and stored cold or deep frozen. Panacol's new Black&Light adhesives cover a wide range of applications in electronics manufacturing including component encapsulation, glob top or edge bonding. They can also be used as optical adhesives in applications requiring high OD (optical density) values.
Achieving optimal curing
The black color in conventional UV adhesives absorbs a high percentage of UV curing energy. This means that the UV light energy required to fully polymerize an adhesive penetrates only a few micrometers. This phenomenon leads to the formation of a surface "skin" while the underlying adhesive remains uncured. Panacol's new black Vitralit® BL UC adhesives can be cured with UV LED light alone to thicknesses exceeding 1 mm. Dr. Hönle's UV LED curing systems match the absorption wavelengths of Black&Light technology very well, ensuring optimal curing of black adhesives. Vitralit® BL UC 1101 is an ideal choice for applications requiring a thick adhesive layer. This product cures reliably in layers up to 1.3 mm thick and provides optical density up to 3.9. For applications requiring high optical density at thinner layer thicknesses, Vitralit® BL UC 1103 with OD values up to 6 is the best option. Vitralit® BL UC adhesives minimize reflections in optoelectronic component assembly and maintain the precise transmission values required for automotive sensors. All three new adhesives offer superior mechanical properties such as high glass transition temperatures, low shrinkage and low coefficient of thermal expansion. These properties provide excellent thermal and positioning stability with reliable bonding results. The compatibility of Black&Light technology with many of Panacol's Vitralit® epoxy resin adhesives enables customized adhesive solutions tailored to specific curing conditions and mechanical properties.
