Hayat Kimya Takes Action on Efficient Water Use for a Sustainable Future

Working towards a sustainable future under its "Hayata İyi Bakarız" approach, Hayat Kimya marked World Water Day by sharing its efforts on efficient resource use and water management, drawing attention to sustainable solutions.
Continuing its efforts for a sustainable future under the "We Care for Life" philosophy, Hayat Kimya drew attention to sustainable solutions by sharing its work in resource efficiency and water management on World Water Day.
According to the Water Risk Atlas published by the World Resources Institute (WRI), Turkey ranks among countries experiencing high water stress. The effects of the climate crisis and the risk of water resource depletion have brought the necessity for organizations to use water efficiently to the forefront. Hayat Kimya, which considers water protection as one of its top priorities in line with sustainable production principles, emphasized the importance of investments it continues to make to improve water management in its business model, particularly in production.
The company, which brings together its 16 brands including Bingo, Molped, Molfix, Papia, Focus, Familia, and Evony in the home care, baby care, paper products, women's personal care, and personal hygiene categories to billions of consumers in more than 100 countries, stands out with effective water management mechanisms it has established to make its production processes sustainable.
With its determined steps toward efficient water use, Hayat Kimya sources 52% of the water it uses in its production processes at its manufacturing campus in Kocaeli from the sea. The company, which reduced water use intensity from 2.99 to 2.89 compared to the previous year, is implementing special engineering investments to make its operations more efficient in order to protect water resources and reduce water consumption amounts. In 2016, Hayat Kimya established a desalination facility to protect water resources and ensure the sustainability of existing freshwater sources, and is increasing the ratio of seawater use in production every passing day. At the desalination facility, water taken from the sea is processed through advanced membrane systems operating efficiently with low energy consumption and converted into raw water free of salt and with low conductivity, suitable for use in production. In this way, less freshwater is used in production stages, and production processes are made environmentally friendly and efficient.
Ibrahim Güler, Vice President for Operations at Hayat Kimya, emphasizing that they address sustainability holistically and work determinedly to implement green and digital transformation together, stated: "Within the scope of our sustainability strategy, we have implemented various water management practices to contribute to the protection of natural resources and make our water consumption more efficient. We are continuing our efforts to use seawater in production to protect groundwater resources. Converting seawater to freshwater, protecting freshwater resources, and reducing dependence on water resources in production are extremely important in terms of alleviating pressure on groundwater, rivers and lakes. As Hayat Kimya, we believe that the protection of water resources is a vital necessity that shapes not only today's but also future generations' quality of life."
