PepsiCo, one of the world's leading food and beverage companies, continues its uninterrupted work in Turkey in line with its PepsiCo Positive (pep+) sustainability strategy. During World Water Week, the company has once again highlighted the critical importance of water for our future, emphasizing its "Net Water Positive" vision.
Three main pillars form the center of PepsiCo's sustainability strategy: Positive Value Chain, Positive Agriculture, and Positive Choices. Within this scope, the "Net Water Positive" approach stands out as one of the most important elements of the company's transformation against climate change. PepsiCo aims globally to reduce water consumption, return more water to nature in high-risk regions than it uses, and protect ecosystems through efficiency-focused projects.
Strong contribution from PepsiCo Turkey
Esra İren, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at PepsiCo, emphasized that water protection is a priority responsibility for the company and made the following assessment:
"The world has long faced the risk of water scarcity. The climate crisis is increasing this risk further. As PepsiCo, we work in line with our global vision to ensure the future of water. As Turkey, we are among the countries providing the strongest contribution to our 'Net Water Positive' target. For example, through projects we have implemented since our Manisa plant opened in 2018, we have reduced our water consumption per kilogram by 52 percent."
Water recovery through "One Drop One World" project
In 2023, PepsiCo launched the "One Drop One World" project in the Tarsus Berdan Basin in collaboration with the Nature Conservation Center (DKM). This project aims both to return more water to nature than is used in factories and to support farmers' transition from traditional methods to modern drip irrigation.
İren reported the results obtained under the project as follows:
"In 2024, we returned 100 percent of the water used at our Manisa plant, 94 percent at our İzmir plant, and 58 percent at our Tarsus plant to nature. To date, we have invested over 1 million dollars in the project. Our target is to expand these practices in the basins where all PepsiCo facilities in Turkey are located, including our Adana plant, as of 2025."
PepsiCo continues to strengthen its goal of building a sustainable food system at both global and local levels through the steps it has taken in water management.
