Childbirth is one of the most meaningful and unforgettable moments in a mother's life. This special experience brings with it a recovery process filled with physical and emotional changes. Op. Dr. Uzay Lebe, Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at Batıgöz Sağlık Grubu Balçova Surgical Medical Center, has provided important recommendations regarding the postpartum recovery process and points to be observed.
Physical Symptoms and Monitoring After Childbirth
Dr. Lebe emphasises the importance of physical symptoms to be observed during the postpartum period. "Heavy bleeding after vaginal delivery, clotted discharge or changes in discharge colour can be a sign of an abnormal condition and medical consultation should be sought immediately," he says. For mothers who have had caesarean delivery, Dr. Lebe notes that symptoms such as pain, redness, swelling or high fever in the incision area may indicate infection risk and stresses that these conditions must not be neglected.
Hospital Discharge and Initial Check-ups
Dr. Lebe states that the correct use of medications and vitamins recommended by the doctor during discharge must be fully understood and emphasises the importance of mothers with stitched deliveries receiving detailed information on wound care and dressing. "Postpartum check-up appointments play a vital role in monitoring the health of both mother and baby. Do not neglect your check-ups," he advises.
Mental Health and Stress Management
Stressing that protecting mental health after childbirth is essential for the happiness of mother and baby, Dr. Lebe offers the following on managing stress and anxiety: "Feeling well and being a healthy mother is very important so that you can provide the best support to your baby. For this reason, take time for yourself and make an effort to establish physical and mental balance."
Nutrition and Exercise for Healthy Recovery
Dr. Lebe states that regular nutrition and appropriate exercise during the postpartum period will support your health and advises expectant mothers: "It is possible to return to your previous form with simple sports activities and a balanced diet programme. However, during this period you should not overdo it and should follow your doctor's recommendations." You must not miss any of the necessary check-ups for a healthy recovery period.
