Besler, a leading company in the food sector, continues to accelerate its sustainability transformation by implementing renewable energy investments under its SBTi (Science Based Targets)-aligned decarbonization strategy. Through a Solar Energy Plant to be installed at its Afyon Emirdağ facility, Besler will generate 4.3 million kWh of electricity annually from renewable sources.
Besler, a pioneering food sector company that reaches millions of households with strong brands such as SuperFresh in the frozen food and canned goods category, DFU in frozen baking, and Bizim Yağ, Terem, Luna, Yayla, Sabah and Halk in the oils category, is implementing a solar energy plant (SEP) investment at its facility in Emirdağ, Afyonkarahisar, as part of its sustainability journey. The rooftop solar energy investment, to be realized through collaboration between Besler and Chint Green Energy Turkey, a subsidiary of Chint Group, under an Energy Performance Contract business model, is scheduled to become operational in April. With the solar energy plant coming online, the Emirdağ facility will have an installed capacity of approximately 3,354 kWp. In the initial phase, 5,734 solar panels will be installed at the plant, generating 4.3 million kWh of electricity annually, thereby meeting approximately 16% of the factory's annual electricity consumption from renewable sources.*
"We are continuing our green transformation journey focused on efficiency and technology with determination"
Besler CEO Mert Altınkılınç: "The 'Wasteless Company' business model, which has been a principle of Yıldız Holding since its establishment, continues to inspire our sustainability-based transformation at Besler today. In line with our responsible production approach, we are taking effective steps to reduce our environmental impact. Within the scope of our SBTi-aligned decarbonization strategy, with a focus on 'Working for Nature's Future', we are steadily progressing toward our goal of gradual transition to clean energy by 2030 and net zero carbon emissions across our entire value chain by 2050. With our new solar energy plant investment in Emirdağ, we will initially meet 16% of our factory's annual electricity needs. As Besler, operating in as vital a sector as food, we are continuing our efficiency and technology-focused green transformation journey with determination in order to ensure food sustainability, mindful of the responsibility this brings."
Chint Green Energy Turkey Board Chairman Ercüment Kaya: "As Chint Green Energy Turkey, we are signing a special project where we provide end-to-end solutions. We have signed an agreement for the construction of a solar energy plant with an installed capacity of 3,354 kWp under the Energy Performance Contract business model for Besler's facility in Afyon Emirdağ. As we have done so far, we will continue to contribute to our business partners' renewable energy investments and sustainability goals in the period ahead. We wish this project to be beneficial and auspicious for both parties." he said.
