Innovation Survey 2020 Results Released
ANKARA (AA) - During the three-year period covering 2018-2020 in Turkey, 38.5% of enterprises with 10 or more employees carried out innovation activities, while the proportion of innovative enterprises in the industrial sector reached 42.5%.
Turkish Statistical Institute released the results of the "Innovation Survey 2020".
According to this, during 2018-2020, 38.5% of enterprises with 10 or more employees, 35.9% of enterprises with 10-49 employees, 46.7% of enterprises with 50-249 employees, and 67.3% of enterprises with 250 or more employees engaged in innovation activities.
The proportion of innovative enterprises was 42.5% in the industrial sector and 33.5% in the service sector.
During the period in question, 19.7% of enterprises introduced product innovations. Among enterprises carrying out product innovation, 79.2% implemented goods innovation and 69.2% implemented service innovation.
When examining the market status of new or significantly improved products, it was determined that 83.4% of product innovations were new to the enterprise and 59.9% were new to the market in which the enterprise operated.
Greatest Innovation Applied to Production Methods
30.2% of enterprises carried out business process innovation, also referred to as "core business functions". The area where the most innovation was applied in business processes was production or service delivery methods at 77.8%. This was followed by accounting or other administrative operations at 74.5% and information technology or communication methods at 68.8%. 27.7% of enterprises engaged in innovation activities collaborated with other enterprises, individuals or organizations. Of these enterprises, 66.2% collaborated in research and development or other innovation activities, while the proportion of enterprises collaborating in other routine business activities was 68.5%. 18.1% of the enterprises in question collaborated for research and development/innovation activities domestically, 7.2% in European countries and 4.8% in other countries. 47.4% of enterprises engaged in innovation activities registered trademarks. This was followed by patent applications at 25.3%, trade secret use at 18.6%, utility model applications at 12.7%, industrial design registration at 12.5%, and copyright applications at 10%. During the period in question, high costs were identified as the leading factor hindering the decision to start innovation activities or the implementation of innovation activities at 54.8%. This was followed by strong market competition at 33.9% and insufficient financial resources within the enterprise at 28.5%.Advertisement
