Making Life Possible: Transplant Centre Performs Over 200 Organ Transfers The Organ Transplant Centre at İstinye Üniversitesi Hastanesi Liv Hospital Bahçeşehir carried out over 200 organ transfers during 2020. The centre, which has gained frequent mention in public discourse through awareness campaigns organised under the slogans "Give Life" and "Give a Chance" and over 600 successful operations performed in the last three years, completed 71 liver transplants and 135 kidney transplants during 2020.

"We Have Performed Many Successful Operations, Saying That Making Life Possible Is Beautiful"

Organ Transplant Centre Chairman Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dinçkan, recalling that tens of thousands of people in Turkey are waiting for organs to regain their health, stated: "We are working to create awareness among all segments of society by organising training programmes and events on organ transplantation. Anyone who has reached 18 years of age and is of sound mind can donate all or part of their organs in accordance with Law No. 2238. As physicians and healthcare workers, we witness the stories of thousands of people throughout our professional lives. As healthcare workers who monitor chronic diseases, we often become actors in these stories. Our sole aim is to help these stories continue happily. With the motto that living is beautiful and enabling life is too, we have performed many successful organ transplant operations. The numbers we have reached encourage us," he said, highlighting the importance of organ transplantation.

"A Total of 80 Children Have Received Kidney Transplants, the Youngest Being 5.5 Months Old"

Prof. Dr. Ozan Özkaya, Chairman of the Department of Child Health and Diseases at İstinye Üniversitesi and a specialist in paediatric nephrology, providing information about kidney transplant operations performed in paediatric patients, stated: "Over the last two years, we have performed kidney transplants in a total of 80 children, the youngest being 5.5 months old. Early post-operative follow-ups are also conducted in the paediatric intensive care unit within our institution. In paediatric patients, the factors leading to kidney failure can be congenital or can develop later. Kidney failure slows growth and development in children and has adverse effects on the heart and other organs. In paediatric patients, both cadaveric and living donor options should be evaluated, and kidney transplants should be performed as early as possible. Children who have the opportunity to receive a kidney transplant can continue their lives and education in a healthy manner with regular follow-up."
