Turkey's Energy Storage Map on the Way

Energy Storage Systems Association (EDSİS) has announced its projects for the first half of 2026. As of January, the association is accelerating its activities with an extensive programme ranging from knowledge generation to human resources development, international cooperation and sector guidelines, aiming to guide the development of the energy storage ecosystem. Within this scope, the preparation of Turkey's first Energy Storage Map is planned for 2026.

EDSİS's roadmap also includes work on "Energy Storage Glossary and Reference Guide" to address the sector's fundamental needs, while the launch of a "Storage 101" content series targeting a broad group of stakeholders including government, investors, industry, academia and media has been announced.

Energy Storage Map to Boost Sector Visibility
EDSİS aims to systematically present existing and planned energy storage facilities across Turkey, technological distributions, capacity information and regional concentrations through the Turkey Energy Storage Map planned to be completed within 2026. The map is envisioned to serve as a strategic reference source for investors, policymakers, technology developers and sector professionals.

Global Comparisons and International Cooperation
The association has begun developing cooperation with international energy storage associations alongside national activities. Within this framework, the "Global Countries Energy Storage Systems Comparison Table" under preparation will present storage capacities, regulatory structures and technology approaches in different countries on a comparative basis. The study is aimed at contributing to an analysis of Turkey's position in the global energy storage ecosystem.

"Energy Storage Is Now at the Center of Energy Transformation"
EDSİS Board Chairman C. Can Tutaşı, drawing attention to the critical role of energy storage, made the following statements regarding the projects:

"Energy storage is no longer merely a complementary technology; it is a strategic field at the centre of renewable energy integration, grid flexibility and energy supply security. As EDSİS enters 2026, we have defined our priorities as correct knowledge generation, creation of a common language and building a sustainable ecosystem encompassing all sector stakeholders."

Noting that the energy storage glossary, "Storage 101" series, internship programme, national map and international comparisons will contribute to the sector's future, Tutaşı continued:

"We aim to reduce information fragmentation, bring young talent to the sector and make Turkey's storage potential visible. In this period of accelerating energy transformation, correct understanding of storage is more important than ever."

Knowledge Generation and Standardisation Work Underway
The Energy Storage Glossary, which the association is nearing completion of, serves as a standard reference source containing Turkish equivalents of technical terms commonly used in the sector. The glossary work aims to consolidate the technical, legal and operational framework in a single document for investors and developers.

Internship Programme Launched for Human Resources
EDSİS has launched an internship programme for university students interested in the energy storage field. Within the scope of the programme, participants will be able to take active roles in various areas ranging from technical content creation to research projects, monitoring international activities to reporting processes. This initiative is aimed at contributing to the formation of qualified human resources that the sector will need in the future.

Strategic Roadmap for the Sector
EDSİS's 2026 projects reflect a holistic approach shaped around knowledge, human resources, data generation and international cooperation axes. The announced activities are expected to strengthen the strategic position of energy storage in Turkey's energy transformation process.
