Trabzon to Collaborate with the Austrian Pharmaceutical Research Institute

Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TTSO) announced it will cooperate with the Austrian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research (ADSI) on biotechnology studies planned using local plants in the region. According to the statement made, the construction of the Trabzon Innovation and Biotechnology Center, established with financial support from the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) through cooperation between TTSO and Trabzon Chamber of Commerce, has reached its final stage. A meeting was held at TTSO with scientists from Austria regarding biotechnology studies to be conducted in the pharmaceutical industry sector. The planned biotechnology studies are expected to make particular use of plants native to the region. The meeting on the subject was attended by Prof. Dr. Günther Bonn, Director General of the Austrian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research (ADSI), Prof. Dr. İlkay Erdoğan Orhan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Gazi University, Dr. Ozan Fidan, TTSO President Suat Hacısalihoğlu and board members. During the meeting, inspections were conducted at the Biotechnology and Innovation Center.

Most Important Contribution Will Be to the Pharmaceutical Industry

In a statement regarding the subject, remarks by TTSO President Suat Hacısalihoğlu were included. Hacısalihoğlu emphasized that one of the most important contributions of the Trabzon Biotechnology and Innovation Center, which will begin operations shortly, will be to the pharmaceutical industry. Hacısalihoğlu stressed that they attach great importance to the scientific evaluation of many plants known to be beneficial by the regional population and their transformation into high-value-added products. Hacısalihoğlu stated: "We are conducting studies to evaluate the vegetation of our region, which has not been utilized until now, particularly in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. We have established cooperation with the Austrian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research, one of the world's leading institutions on this subject. This cooperation and the work we are conducting together form the first steps of the studies we will carry out at our center in the future."
