Şişecam to Develop Roof Glass for Circular Vehicle Prototype in ZEvRA Project

As part of the ZEvRA project, Şişecam will develop a roof glass for the circular vehicle prototype, supporting the vehicle's battery with solar energy glass produced specifically for this project. Şişecam, among the partners of the "Zero-Emission Electric Vehicles Enabled by Circular Economy" (ZEvRA) project implemented in line with the European Union's goal of zero carbon emissions by 2035, continues to develop special glass solutions for electric vehicles. The project, coordinated by Fraunhofer Institute, is being carried out with the contribution of 28 partners, including world-renowned automotive brands. The ZEvRA project began at the start of 2024 and will continue until the end of 2026.
Within the project scope, partners will work on a circular vehicle prototype. Şişecam will produce the roof glass for this prototype. The solar energy glass to be produced specifically for this purpose will support the vehicle's battery. With this innovative product aiming to minimize natural resource and chemical material use, Şişecam targets both increasing vehicle performance and reducing carbon footprint throughout the product life cycle.
With this solar glass technology, Şişecam argues that automotive glass can transition from being a passive component to becoming an active element that contributes to vehicle efficiency and environmental protection.
During the development of the prototype vehicle, expected to be completed in the second half of 2026, Şişecam will contribute directly to the circular economy and sustainability goals of electric vehicles through high value-added, low carbon footprint automotive glass.
About the ZEvRA Project
The ZEvRA Project is financed under the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program. The project aims to develop a circular economy approach for electric light commercial vehicles and create a clean, competitive and sustainable automotive future. ZEvRA will contribute to zero-emission solutions throughout the entire value chain from production to end-of-life recycling and aims to establish a common circularity methodology across Europe.
