Turkey received $910 million in investment in January

According to current official data shared on 12 March 2024, Turkey received USD 910 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in January 2024. Within total FDI inflows, USD 399 million was recorded through equity capital inflows, USD 415 million through real estate sales to foreign nationals, and USD 102 million through debt instruments. With investment liquidations recording a downward impact of USD 6 million, total FDI inflows materialized at USD 910 million. Following the announcement of Turkey's Central Bank Balance of Payments Statistics, the Association of International Investors (YASED) published its bulletin on International Direct Investment in Figures. According to the "International Direct Investment in Figures Bulletin" compiled by the Association of International Investors (YASED) from the Balance of Payments Statistics shared by Turkey's Central Bank on 12 March 2024, Turkey received USD 910 million in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in January 2024. The USD 910 million investment inflow marked a 20% increase compared to January of the previous year. FDI drawn in January accounted for 36% of the current account deficit for the same month. When evaluated from 2002 onwards, cumulative FDI inflows to Turkey exceeded USD 264 billion. Equity capital inflows realized in January 2024 totaled USD 399 million in volume, and in sectoral composition, mining and quarrying hosted USD 167 million in equity capital inflows, representing 42% of total equity capital inflows. Wholesale and retail trade continued to perform above its past cumulative performance, drawing 15% of equity capital inflows materialized in the same month.

Most investment from the United States

European Union (EU-27) countries, which held a 59% share in the 2002-2023 period, captured a 27% share in the first month of 2024. In January 2024, the United States (US) stood out with a 44% share. The US was followed by Germany with 17% and the United Kingdom (UK) with 12%.
