Literatür Kimya Sets Sights on Defense and Aerospace Sector

Literatür Kimya designs and produces composite semi-finished products for numerous sectors including automotive, electrical, construction and food. The company now targets the defence and aerospace industries.

Özlem Ural, co-founder and President of Operations at Literatür Kimya, said: "Beyond our current areas, we want to focus on the defence and aerospace sectors." Ural noted the importance of material lightweighting in transport and logistics sectors, highlighting the prominence of composite products in these areas.

Ural stated that composites, as an alternative to the high density of metals and serving to lighten the products in which they are used, are preferred in heavy commercial vehicles and automotive where lightweighting is necessary for more economical operations. "In fields such as space, aerospace and defence industry, composites are strategic materials. In the new period, we will place greater emphasis on production for the defence and aerospace sectors. For this reason, we will increase capacity in carbon fibre in the third quarter of the year," he said. Highlighting the raw material shortage affecting the entire world due to the pandemic, Ural stated that they overcame supply, delivery and price issues particularly in the plastic and metal sectors by designing alternative composite SMC & BMC raw material formulations. Ural recalled that they began producing SMC with carbon fibre in 2019, saying, "We also gave an informational presentation on the subject to companies operating in the same sector."
