"Nanoprotective Mask" Against Coronavirus Wins Award

Istanbul Arel University's research center ArelPOTKAM (Polymer Technologies and Composite Application and Research Center) has recognized two projects developed by Materials Technology Specialist Erdi Buluş for their benefits to human health. Istanbul Arel University's ArelPOTKAM unit has achieved a significant breakthrough with nanotechnology in masks, one of the most important measures against the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the world. The Nanoprotective Mask is more durable, environmentally friendly, suited to facial structure and more cost-effective than other masks. Erdi Buluş met with Istanbul Arel University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Argun Karacabey. Following the meeting where project details were presented, a plaque was awarded.

Nanoprotective Solution for Coronavirus That Degrades Naturally

Erdi Buluş, Materials Technology Specialist at ArelPOTKAM who designed and developed the product, stated in his remarks: "The product can be used 3-4 times longer than current masks, while the usage period of others is only 8 hours. Additionally, our product is recyclable and environmentally friendly because it is produced from environmental waste. While other masks cause discomfort after some time of facial contact, this product is fully compatible with the ergonomic structure of the face and causes no discomfort. Another important aspect is that it costs approximately 30 percent less compared to other existing products. We can install this system directly into existing industrial processes and can move to serial production within 1 month," he said. On Monday, 17 February, the Innovative Design Competition was held at Istanbul Commerce University Incubation Center, supported by Istanbul Development Agency, within the scope of the Developing Technological Entrepreneurship Project. In the competition held with sponsorship by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Ziraat Katılım Bank, Erdi Buluş, working as Materials Technology Specialist at ArelPOTKAM, won second place in the 'Innovative Product Category' with two projects: "Production of Biodegradable Nanotechnological Mask Effective Against Bacteria and Viruses Like Coronavirus: Nanoprotective" and "Production of Portable Allspinning and Bioprinting Pen with Domestic Wound Healing and Tissue Repair Functional Usage Capability." Regarding his projects, Buluş further stated: "Our Nanoprotective product, besides coronavirus, has the ability to block other bacteria and harmful substances, and with its breathable structure it is extremely practical and also offers the possibility of drug loading." Erdi Buluş added: "We have filed patent applications for our products." Following the award, Erdi Buluş met with Istanbul Arel University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Argun Karacabey, presented the details of the projects and received his plaque after the meeting.
