Sharp Increase in Number of Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations

Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations Show Sharp Increase Demand for electric cars in Turkey increased approximately 5-fold over the past year. Rising demand for electric vehicles has accelerated charging network infrastructure work and charging station investments across Turkey. The market share of electric vehicles in the automotive sector is growing exponentially each year. According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data, 14,552 electric cars were sold in Turkey in 2022. According to a statement by the Turkish Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Association (TEHAD), this figure reached 72,179 units in 2023. Brands such as Tesla and Togg, which entered the market in 2023, played an important role in the 496% increase in electric car sales in Turkey.

Elaris General Coordinator Volkan Demir, noting that rising demand for electric vehicles in Turkey has accelerated charging network infrastructure work and charging station investments, made the following remarks:

"According to data from the Turkish Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Association (TEHAD), there were 6,500 electric vehicle charging stations in Turkey in 2022. According to data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), as of 25 December, this number reached a total of 12,067 stations, comprising 8,492 slow charging (AC) and 3,575 fast charging (DC) stations. That is, charging station numbers in Turkey increased by 185% in the past year. Turkey has reached second place in Europe in terms of total charging points.
