Low Carbon Hero Awards Announce Winners

26 organizations reducing carbon footprint and supporting climate change mitigation awarded as Low Carbon Heroes by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association

Organizations combating climate change by minimizing greenhouse gas emissions were honored as Low Carbon Heroes by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D) at the 5th Istanbul Carbon Summit hosted by Istanbul Technical University (ITU). In the evaluation where 69 projects with successful carbon management were candidates, 26 organizations were deemed worthy of the award by SÜT-D. The Low Carbon Heroes received their awards from Adnan Tan, Deputy Director General of Environmental Management at the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.

Achievements of Greenhouse Gas Conserving Organizations Important for Climate-Friendly Living

Prof. Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu, Faculty Member at ITU and Chair of SÜT-D, stated: "Achieving climate-friendly living is important and necessary. We have damaged our planet enough and altered our climate. We must put an end to this course. Our industry should grow by advancing with a low-carbon economy. With this award, which we are presenting for the fourth time, we have progressed toward SÜT-D's goal of establishing a sustainability-conscious culture by rewarding the technical and social achievements of greenhouse gas conservers in the energy, chemical, steel, cement, white goods and waste sectors, as well as in local administrations," he said.

Application Received from Tajikistan

Prof. Karaosmanoğlu said: "This year, the environmental organization Little Earth from Tajikistan applying to our award with its Sustainable Communities with Clean Energy project has increased our energy while making us experience the pride of creating widespread impact."

Companies, Municipalities and Civil Society Organizations Competed to Become Low Carbon Heroes

Polisan received an award with its project titled Sustainability Journey to Global Standards, while Akademi Çevre won with Recycle Your White Goods, Reclaim Your Climate, Bereket Enerji with its Landfill Gas (LFG) Power Plant project, İSTAÇ with Manage Your Waste, Reduce Your Carbon, Samsun Avdan with Fuel Recovery from Treatment Sludge in Biogas Facility, and Nuh Çimento with Waste Heat Management in Fuel Production from Treatment Sludge became Low Carbon Heroes for their waste management successes. Cargill's Erase Your Footprint project, Vestel Beyaz Eşya's Energy Efficiency in Auxiliary Facilities project, Organik Kimya's Energy Recovery System project, Green Chemicals' Dust Control project, and Tat Metal Çelik's Hydrogen Production from Natural Gas project were recognized for their energy-efficient carbon management achievements. Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality's Transformation into Green Public Building, Thermax's Waste Heat Management in Shopping Center, CBKSoft Yazılım's Green Office, BSH Türkiye's In-house Green Transportation, and UTİKAD-International Transport and Logistics Service Providers Association's Sustainable Logistics Certification projects made them Low Carbon Heroes. Aksa Doğalgaz's Cities Breathing with Natural Gas, İZAYDAŞ's İzaycan Environmentally Conscious Child, Schneider Electric's Energy University, and MTGreenworks' Green Piggy Bank projects with strong social dimensions were deemed worthy of the award. EPİAŞ Energy Efficiency with Domestic and New Insulation Materials, İÇDAŞ Low Carbon Footprint Construction Steel, Shell&Turcas Motor Oil Caring for the Future, and Uzay Kimya Climate-Friendly Cleaning Product were declared Low Carbon Heroes by reducing product carbon footprint with their work.
