Aygaz Establishes Turkey's First LPG R&D Center
Aygaz R&D Center established within Aygaz Gebze Facility commences operations on a 772-square-meter site.
The Aygaz R&D Center employs 18 specialists in their respective fields. At the R&D Center, the objectives include development of new products using LPG, improvement of LPG product quality, digitalization through smart products, efficiency gains via automation systems, research into alternative and clean energy sources, and increasing contributions to consumer satisfaction, national economy and environmental protection.
Aygaz, a sector leader with 48 patents, has launched R&D activities within the R&D Center through departments including Motor and Fuel Technologies Laboratory, Chemistry Laboratory, Automation and Design Laboratory, Embedded Systems Laboratory, Manufacturing Workshop, and Prototype and Test Lines.
When 2018 R&D projects are included, the center has allocated a total of TRY 10 million and operates with state-of-the-art technology, employing 18 personnel comprising 15 researchers and 3 technicians.
With core activity areas defined as 'New Product Development', 'Alternative Fuel & Clean Energy' and 'Machinery & Process Development', the R&D Center conducts its work in collaboration with academic and scientific institutions such as TÜBİTAK, Koç University, Middle East Technical University, Istanbul Technical University, and Istanbul University, and aims to conduct studies with different universities in the field of industry-university cooperation.
Greenodor Project Targets Minimizing Sulfur Emissions
Among studies currently underway at the R&D Center, the Greenodor project represents a world first. LPG, a colorless and odorless gas, is odorized with sulfur-containing compounds to enable detection in case of leakage. However, non-flammable sulfur oxides rank among the most significant air pollutants with atmospheric persistence of 40 days. Having completed a significant portion of its work, the center with the Greenodor project, which holds trademark registration in 10 different countries, eliminates the use of sulfur as an odorant in Autogas and bottled gas, transforming the fuel of the future into an important tool in combating climate change. Leveraging developments in technology and information technology at the highest level, the Aygaz R&D Center aims to convert LPG into a more efficient product and contribute to both consumer satisfaction and national economy.Advertisement
