Bostik Products Chosen for the Construction of AKM

Istanbul's most important cultural and arts center, Atatürk Kültür Merkezi, is under construction. The center, planned to be completed by year-end, will rank among the world's largest opera halls with its 2,500-seat opera auditorium. Bostik products were selected for the enclosed parking garage flooring applications and fire protection solutions of this major project. Approximately 250 tonnes of Bostik SH QC Floor Hardener and 14 tonnes of Bostik Acrylic WBC Concrete Curing were used in the project's 70,000 m² enclosed parking area. These two products, combined with ease of application, contributed to the project by achieving a high-wear-resistant surface. Fire resistance at the building's passage transitions and beam-wall gaps was provided with 3,000 units of sausage-packaged Bostik Water-Based Acrylic Sealant. This product was selected due to its fire resistance lasting up to 4 hours and its role in facilitating evacuation in case of fire.

Properties of Bostik Products Used

Bostik SH QC Floor Hardener (Quartz and Corundum Aggregate): A cement-based floor hardener applied monolithically to concrete surfaces, ready to use. Applied as a broadcast onto fresh concrete. Produces dust-free, smooth-surfaced floors. Superior resistance to wear and impact compared to conventional concrete. Resistant to heavy traffic and long-lasting. Increases concrete impermeability, does not oxidize, non-flammable. Easy to clean and maintain. Suitable for use in all indoor and outdoor spaces from roads, parking areas, industrial and commercial warehouses to docks. Bostik WBC Acrylic Concrete Curing: Applied as a curing material to concrete and surfaces treated with Bostik SH Floor Hardener. A single-component liquid curing material based on acrylic resin, used to prevent surface cracks that may occur due to rapid evaporation of mixing water in mortar. Prevents wear of concrete and screeded surfaces. Produces a dust-free and hard surface. The resulting transparent film layer increases water impermeability of concrete. Prevents rapid water loss from fresh concrete, minimizing the risk of crack formation during drying and setting phases. Prevents concrete from developing a porous surface. Used on concrete screeds, enclosed and open parking areas, warehouses, concrete pours in hot weather, and surfaces treated with Bostik SH Floor Hardener. Bostik Intucrylic Fire-Resistant Water-Based Acrylic Sealant: Ideal for expansion, contraction, and building joint sealing in locations subject to movement and separation factors. Used as a bedding/sealing component in the installation of fire-resistant flooring systems, for sealing gaps between adjacent structures such as fire-resistant construction materials and window and door frames, and as a leak prevention system for both cables and pipes. Expands to form a barrier at high temperatures. Does not slump in joints up to 30mm width. Exhibits minimal shrinkage. Provides excellent adhesion to many surfaces. Typically forms a dry surface in less than 15 minutes. Paintable. Bostik Intucrylic carries top-tier fire certification.
