AKUT athlete to represent Turkey at the Olympics

AKUT Sports Club Alpine Skiing Athlete Özlem Çarıkçıoğlu to Compete in 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Özlem Çarıkçıoğlu, a national skier for AKUT Sports Club competing in the Alpine discipline, will take part in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics to be held in South Korea from 9-25 February in the Alpine skiing event. Özlem Çarıkçıoğlu, the national skier for AKUT Sports Club who will compete in the Alpine discipline at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics to be held in South Korea, met with press representatives. The press conference held yesterday at AKUT Sports Club's headquarters in Şişli was attended by the national athlete as well as AKUT Sports Club Chairman Nasuh Mahruki and AKUT Sports Club Alpine Skiing Branch Head Burak Üstay. Çarıkçıoğlu, who will compete on 12 and 14 February at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, expressed pride in competing at the Olympics, saying: "I want to represent my country, my club and myself in the best way possible at the Olympics. I will do my best for this. I hope that as I represent my country on the Olympic path, my teammates who stayed behind will follow my example and continue in sports. I also thank AKUT Sports Club." Nasuh Mahruki noted that their objectives are to improve the quality of sports in Turkey and enable more people to engage in sports, saying: "We aimed to develop athletes for the Olympics and world championships. We are very happy that we have realized this dream thanks to Özlem Çarıkçıoğlu." Burak Üstay remarked that 24-year-old Özlem is one of the most successful and consistent athletes, saying: "Özlem is the captain of our team and has been with us for approximately 10 years. She has made AKUT Sports Club an Olympic club. We congratulate her on this success. I wish Özlem success at the Olympics."
