Turkey's Exporters Council (TİM) Chairman İsmail Gülle, assessing May export figures, stated: "The May we have left behind was a month in which we broke the record for exports in the history of the Republic, both on a monthly and daily basis. We all see together how the blessings of the blessed month of Ramadan have reflected in our exports. For our exporters, Eid al-Fitr turned into a double celebration. In addition, we reached the highest monthly export figure of all time in May according to both the general trade system and the special trade system." he said. Turkey's Exporters Council, together with the Ministry of Trade, announced the May preliminary foreign trade data. According to this data, exports in May increased by 11.5% compared to the same month of the previous year according to the general trade system, reaching USD 16.813 billion. According to the special trade system, it rose by 12.2% to USD 15.998 billion. TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle: "In May, Germany remained the leading country for our exports, with exports to that country approaching USD 1.5 billion. Germany was followed by Italy with USD 857 million and the United Kingdom with USD 853 million. While the top 20 countries where we conducted the most exports did not change compared to May of last year, there were some changes in the rankings. Spain, which was in 4th place last year, dropped to 6th place, while the USA, where we increased our exports to USD 784.2 million with a 30% increase, became the 4th country where we exported the most in May.
We also see that the UAE and Saudi Arabia climbed 4 places each in the rankings, becoming the 9th and 12th countries respectively." he said.
TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle continued his statements as follows: "Our top 3 exporting provinces were Istanbul, Bursa and Kocaeli, respectively. When we look at the sectors, we see that our leading sector is automotive. While our sector's exports remained the same compared to May of the previous year, our chemicals sector in second place increased its exports by 33%, and our apparel and clothing sector in third place increased its exports by 10%. In May, the highest increase among sectors was 44% in our jewelry sector. Our defense and aerospace sector, which increased its exports by 31% in May, achieved the success of being the sector with the highest export increase in the first 5 months of the year. In May, out of 26 commodity exporters in our sector, 22 increased their exports, which is a great joy for us. In May, exports increased by 34.1% on a volume basis. Agricultural product exports increased at a limited rate of 3.1% year-on-year in May, while industry growth approached 50%. In mining products, the growth rate exceeded 20%. In May, an export volume of 14 million tons was reached, while in the first 5 months, exports increased by 26.6% on a volume basis, reaching 62 million tons."
