Sector's Exports Exceed $2 Billion in Two Months
According to data released by the İstanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters' Association (İKMİB), the chemical industry recorded exports worth USD 1.149 billion in February.
Chemical exports up 36% by volume, down 2.5% by value
According to data released by İKMİB, the chemical sector achieved USD 1.149 billion in exports in February. The sector, which recorded a 36% increase by volume, reached 1.651 million tonnes in exports. Maintaining its third-place ranking after automotive and ready-made garments and textiles, the chemical sector achieved USD 2.154 billion in exports in the two-month period. The top three countries receiving the most exports in the second month of the year were Egypt, Germany and Iraq. The United Arab Emirates, Iran, Greece, Italy, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom ranked among the other top 10 countries. Exports to Egypt, which had been experiencing export losses for some time, rose by 11%, while exports to Germany increased by 14%. Increases of 62% to Greece and 44% to Romania drew attention, while Singapore set a record with an 817% increase. Of the total exports, 36% went to European Union countries. In the January-February period, the countries receiving the most exports were Germany, Egypt, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Iran, Greece, Spain and the United Kingdom.İKMİB Board Chairman Murat Akyüz
commented on the chemical sector's export performance in February: "Turkey is experiencing a recovery in exports in February overall. This effect is being felt in the chemical sector. We continue to be the country's third-largest exporting sector. We have accelerated our activities to boost our export performance as a sector. For our sectors such as medical, cosmetics, plastics and pharmaceuticals, we organize trade fairs and trade delegation events in different parts of the world." Akyüz noted that they will conduct a national participation organization for Italy's Cosmoprof Fair, one of Europe's largest cosmetics gatherings, in March, and emphasized that they continue their work without interruption despite all negative developments.Chemical sector exports in February 2016
