To meet Paris Agreement targets, the world will need substantial quantities of green hydrogen, and wind will provide a large portion of the power required for its production.

Siemens Gamesa and Siemens Energy announced that they are combining their developments and capabilities in wind-to-hydrogen to decarbonize the economy and address climate crisis, one of the greatest challenges of our decade. The companies are developing an innovative solution that fully integrates an electrolyzer into an offshore wind turbine as a single synchronized system to produce green hydrogen directly. The companies plan to deliver a full-scale offshore demonstration of the solution by 2025/2026. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research indicated that the developments could be implemented as part of the "Germany Hydrogen Republic" idea competition. Siemens Gamesa Chief Executive Officer Andreas Nauen said, "When we combine our more than 30 years of experience in the offshore wind industry with Siemens Energy's expertise in electrolyzers, we bring together bright minds and the latest technologies to address the climate crisis. Our wind turbines play a major role in decarbonizing the global energy system, and the potential of wind transforming into hydrogen means we can do this for hard-to-abate industries as well. I am proud that our people are part of shaping a greener future." Siemens Energy Chief Executive Officer Christian Bruch said, "Together with Siemens Gamesa, we are uniquely positioned to develop this game-changing solution. We are a company that can leverage highly flexible electrolyzer technology and create and redefine the future of sustainable offshore energy production. With these developments, the potential of regions with abundant offshore wind will become accessible for the hydrogen economy. By enabling us to store and transport wind energy, this is the best example of reducing the carbon footprint of the economy."   Source
