Air pollution ranks among the world's most pressing challenges. Currently, 92% of the global population is exposed to excessive air pollution. Asia is the most affected region, as nearly all of the 30 most polluted cities worldwide are located on this continent. Following this global concern, anti-pollution skincare products, initially launched in Asia, are now being distributed internationally. Our skin and hair are the first to be exposed to this pollution. Air pollution, particulate matter (PM) and UV, promote the formation of free radicals and oxidative stress. One consequence of this oxidative stress on hair is protein carbonylation, which leads to non-functional proteins and keratins. This degradation of structural components (keratin) destabilizes the cuticle, disrupts its balance, and allows stressors to penetrate the hair shaft, altering the hair surface. As a specialist in corneal therapy and pollution resistance, Codif decided to take on a new challenge and developed an active substance called Capiguard that can repair and protect the hair cuticle against stress (external environment, chemical treatments, mechanical effects).

Our Solution: Capiguard

Capiguard is composed of a depolymerized seaweed variety using patented HTAC technology: hydrothermolysis accelerated with supercritical CO2. Through this technology, a polysaccharide is obtained that provides a protective and recoating effect on the cuticle surface. It is derived from Furcellaria Lumbricalis, a red algae species, one of the most important varieties of the Baltic Sea.

Cells in the stratum granulosum do not divide; instead, they form skin cells called keratinocytes from keratin granules. These skin cells eventually become the corneal layer (stratum corneum), the outermost epidermal layer, with nuclei located at one end of the cells being bagged. Although the cornified layer is the outer layer of the epidermis, it is not considered the outer layer of our skin. The hydrolipidic film (HLF) on its surface plays a role in hosting skin microbiota and locking in moisture. This transformation is characteristic of dry lipid skin with limited sebum secretion.

The unique nature of HLF; preserves the emulsion of surface lipids and the special components that surface water requires. Codif laboratories developed a fatty organic macerate concentrate and named it Wakapamp. Wakapamp will help reconstruct the skin's hydrolipidic films (HLF) by promoting the synthesis of main components of surface lipids in the skin (epidermal lipids + sebum) and surface water.
