Vantage Triggers Anti-Dumping Investigation in the US with "Dumping Alert"

Vantage Specialty Chemicals files anti-dumping and countervailing duty petition against fatty acid imports from Indonesia and Malaysia to the US.

US-based specialty chemicals manufacturer Vantage Specialty Chemicals announced it has filed anti-dumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) petitions with trade authorities, citing that imports of certain fatty acids from Indonesia and Malaysia create "unfair price competition" in the US market.

In a statement by Vantage, the company claims that such imports create unfair competitive pressure on American producers, damaging domestic production's market share, profitability and capacity utilization. The company stated that through petitions submitted to the US Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission, it is seeking protective measures against unfair trade practices.

Fatty acids and their derivatives are raw materials derived from vegetable oils and fatty animal products, and are used in a wide range of products including paints, textile softeners, food additives, asphalt, rubber processing and industrial lubricants.

In Vantage's petition, it is claimed that fatty acid imports from Indonesia and Malaysia have more than doubled over the past four years, these products are sold below market value, and the relevant governments support exports under subsidized conditions. It was emphasized that domestic US producers consequently face losses including sales declines, reduced profitability and decreased facility capacity utilization.

Company officials stated that they aim for measures that may take effect following examination of the petition to create a more balanced competitive environment for US producers.

Within the scope of this investigation process, the relevant trade authorities will evaluate the petition, examine whether imports harm domestic industry, and determine whether additional tariff measures are necessary.
