Türkiye's First UNESCO MOST School: Artificial Intelligence and Migration Governance

İstinye Üniversitesi and UNESCO to launch Turkey's first UNESCO MOST School under the Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST) titled "Artificial Intelligence and Migration Governance." Within the scope of trainings to be conducted in cooperation with UNESCO, the contribution of artificial intelligence applications to migration policies will be examined and sustainable solution possibilities in the social sphere will be investigated.

In cooperation with İstinye Üniversitesi and UNESCO, Turkey's first UNESCO MOST School will be organized under the Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST) with the title "Artificial Intelligence and Migration Governance." The trainings, which will bring together researchers from the social sciences and engineering fields with policymakers, aim to examine the use of artificial intelligence in migration governance processes and contribute to policy development efforts in this field. The project team led by Prof. Dr. Ayselin Yıldız, faculty member of the Department of International Relations at İstinye Üniversitesi, will include Prof. Dr. Osman Can Ünver, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sundu, Lecturer Dr. İsmail Ergen, Lecturer Dr. Levent Korkmaz and Kazım Timuçin Utkan. In the project where international experts will also participate as trainers, UNESCO Turkey National Commission MOST and Migration Specialization Committee Chair Prof. Dr. Akif Kireçci and Committee member Prof. Dr. Şebnem Akçapar will also take part.  

Innovative solutions prioritizing universal and social benefit

The "Artificial Intelligence and Migration Governance" trainings represent an important initiative that examines how artificial intelligence technologies can be effectively utilized in the process of developing solutions to migration governance and related social issues. Within the scope of trainings to be conducted in cooperation with UNESCO, the contribution of artificial intelligence applications to migration policies will be examined and the investigation of sustainable solution possibilities in the social sphere is aimed for. Innovative solutions aimed at managing migration processes in a more efficient and sustainable manner prioritize universal and social benefit. 

Expressing satisfaction at the opening of Turkey's first UNESCO MOST School, Prof. Dr. Ayselin Yıldız stated that through this project they aim to bring forward the human rights-based, effective and ethical use of new technologies in the migration field. Yıldız noted that the project will examine artificial intelligence-supported systems in many areas including decision-support systems, facial and voice recognition, border management, citizenship determination and risk analyses.

MOST Schools are capacity-building activities in UNESCO member states focused on strengthening evidence-based decision-making competencies. Designed on the basis of demands arising from social needs, MOST Schools prioritize initiatives aimed at developing the capacity of researchers and decision-makers.
