TurkStat Aims to Advance with a Data-Driven Ecosystem

Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TÜİK) continues its work on digital transformation and data governance without slowing down.
TÜİK Vice President Tuğba Değirmenci stated in her remarks at the International Data Science and Statistics Congress that the institution has taken important steps in data management and analysis processes.
Tuğba Değirmenci explained that in TÜİK's digitalization process, they embarked on a journey that began primarily with the transfer of physical and analog data to the digital environment, and subsequently technologies were deployed for collecting this data through digital applications and the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. Emphasizing that these developments have brought TÜİK to a more advanced level in data collection and analysis, Değirmenci said, "We aim to create a more efficient and integrated data ecosystem by combining data sources."
"Preparing for the Future with National Data Strategy"
Değirmenci noted that rapidly growing data volumes today create new needs, and drew attention to the importance of concepts such as data cataloguing and interoperability. In this context, she said that a national data strategy needs to be developed that will enable the integration of public data across Turkey within a framework of common standards.
Emphasizing that TÜİK aims to be one of Turkey's leading institutions in data governance, Değirmenci said, "We aim to establish an integrated data platform with other public institutions to increase efficiency and reliability in data sharing."
Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Employment
Değirmenci stated that as a stakeholder in the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, TÜİK is working on the effective use of artificial intelligence in public domains. "We are particularly carrying out important projects on occupational and skills classifications through artificial intelligence. With these projects that will shape the future of employment, we aim to produce more efficient and beneficial solutions for the public," she said.
Noting that data security and protection of personal data are among TÜİK's fundamental principles, Değirmenci emphasized that they continue their work in compliance with data privacy and applicable legislation.
TÜİK Takes Leading Role in Digital Transformation
Değirmenci stated that TÜİK will continue to take a leading role in digital transformation, and that they aim to establish a reliable and sustainable data ecosystem in Turkey and become an exemplary institution in data governance at the national and international level.
