STAR Refinery, established with a USD 6.3 billion investment in Izmir Aliağa and inaugurated on 19 October 2018, has begun supplying its first naphtha to Petkim as part of SOCAR Türkiye's refinery-petrochemical integration. The first naphtha was delivered to Petkim via pipelines, utilizing the logistical advantages provided by both facilities' location in the same region. STAR Refinery General Manager Mesut İlter expressed satisfaction with the naphtha supply to Petkim, stating: "We have completed another important process at the refinery. Following our inauguration on 19 October, we gradually commenced production and delivered our first naphtha to Petkim. Designed as an integrated facility, the refinery will produce 1.6 million tons of naphtha annually. In the initial phase, we supplied 1,303 tons of naphtha to our sister company Petkim, but as we ramp up to full capacity, we will provide all of Petkim's naphtha feedstock requirements from this facility. This will make a significant contribution not only to the Turkish economy but also to Petkim. Now Petkim will be able to eliminate freight costs from its feedstock cost structure. This synergy will enhance Petkim's efficiency," he said. Petkim General Manager Anar Mammadov, who noted expectations of significant synergy from the Petkim and STAR Refinery partnership, pointed out that the world's most efficient companies are integrated companies, stating: "Before STAR Refinery commenced production, we had to source our naphtha feedstock from various suppliers. The inconsistent quality of the product also affected our efficiency. Now we will be able to procure product of a consistent standard without paying freight charges. This will provide substantial synergy for both companies. Going forward, we aim to increase profitability through superior product quality, logistical advantages, and our shared services and infrastructure. We will soon begin meeting all our feedstock requirements from STAR Refinery. Our optimization efforts are ongoing. With this integration, which we see as having great potential, we will achieve significant increases in our production and efficiency."
