CANDU Technology, Under Consideration for Sinop Nuclear Power Plant, to Be Presented at NPPES 2026

Representatives of Canadian-origin CANDU reactor technology, which has come to the fore in connection with Türkiye's second nuclear power plant project, will meet with Turkish industrialists at the 12th Nuclear Power Plants Summit - NPPES, to be held in Istanbul on 30 June – 1 July 2026.

Representatives of Canada-based CANDU reactor technology, mentioned in Turkey's second nuclear power plant project, will meet with Turkish industrialists at the 12th Nuclear Power Plants Summit - NPPES to be held in Istanbul on 30 June – 1 July 2026.

Organised by the Ankara Chamber of Industry and the Nuclear Industry Association, with support from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, NPPES will bring together all stakeholders in the sector in Istanbul as one of the largest nuclear energy events in Turkey, the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa.

Within the scope of the summit, a dedicated supply chain session will be held on CANDU reactor technology developed by Canada and successfully used in various countries worldwide. The session will share comprehensive information on the technology, while evaluating the roles Turkish industry could assume in international nuclear projects and cooperation opportunities.

Within the framework of the event, a collaboration session jointly organised by the Canadian Nuclear Association and the Nuclear Industry Association will also address opportunities for domestic industry participation in nuclear energy investments planned in Turkey and neighbouring geographies.

CANDU Technology on Turkey's Agenda
Alikaan Çiftçi, President of the Nuclear Industry Association, noted that Canada is one of the world's most established technology developers in the nuclear energy field, and said:

"CANDU technology developed by Canada is used today in reactors successfully operated not only in Canada but also in countries such as South Korea, Romania, China and Argentina. The active participation of representatives of this technology, mentioned in Turkey's second nuclear power plant project, in NPPES presents significant opportunities in terms of integrating Turkish industry into the global nuclear supply chain. We find such contacts extremely valuable for the nuclear industrial capacity that has developed in Turkey in recent years to gain greater participation in international projects."

Canada's Leading Nuclear Companies in Istanbul
Among the companies from Canada participating in the summit are important sector representatives such as AtkinsRéalis, one of the world's leading engineering and project management firms in the nuclear energy field, and Kinectrics, a subsidiary of BWX Technologies that provides advanced engineering solutions for the energy sector.

NPPES 2026 aims to provide a platform for Turkey's developing nuclear industry ecosystem to meet with international technology providers, while contributing to domestic companies taking more active roles in global supply chains.
