Sabancı University and Ministry Come Together for COP31
Sabancı University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yıldız met with Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, Head of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The meeting addressed the role of academic R&D in Türkiye's achievement of its climate targets within the scope of COP31, strategic cooperation opportunities, and the contributions the university could offer to the COP31 process.

The meeting addressed the role of academic research and development in Turkey's achievement of climate targets under COP31 and strategic cooperation opportunities, as well as the contributions the university can make to the COP31 process.
Sabancı Üniversitesi Vice Rector for Research and Development Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yıldız met with Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, Head of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change, as part of preparations for COP31, which Turkey will host. The meeting focused on the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), to be held in Antalya this year under Turkey's hosting. At the meeting, where Sabancı Üniversitesi's advanced technology development capacity and pioneering work in climate science were presented, possible cooperation processes that could strengthen Turkey's hand in global climate diplomacy were discussed.
Emphasis placed on synergy between state institutions and universities
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yıldız commented on the meeting: "As Sabancı Üniversitesi, we view the conversion of our scientific contributions in sustainability and climate into societal benefit as a priority goal. This meeting, which underscores the importance of synergy between state institutions and established academic institutions during Turkey's hosting of the COP31 process, also reinforced our university's role as a 'research center' producing solutions to global crises." The meeting, held in Ankara, highlighted Sabancı Üniversitesi's strong research centers and interdisciplinary working culture. The relevant academic units, centers and forums operating significant processes under the university umbrella were noted for their work aligned with the COP31 action agenda. Particular emphasis was placed on the contributions that the university's capacity in new technology development, carbon management and climate change adaptation could bring to the COP31 action agenda.
